Spence for £15m makes sense. It's not breaking the bank kind of money, would be seen as an incredible bargain if he his his potential, but if it doesn't work out it's not a huge loss.

I can see why Boro were trying to hold out for £20m, and who can blame them, but at the end of the day he's a player they loaned out as they didn't see him performing, and has no PL experience.

Can I just repeat this pearl from SC "ITK" on Sunday

It's almost as if he was in the room with Paratici. Uncanny insight.

:nunothumb:

Tielemens has magic feet but he's very slow. Good player, but don't think he's the kind of player that would make a 3-5-2 work with our other midfield options. Great value if he's £20m.

If Tielemans comes we are talking potentially a formation change to 352 as Shadydan Shadydan already mentioned. That is fine but it might mean Tielemans accepting a role on the bench with us normally playing 343.

If Conte wants that and Tielemans is fine with that situation then fine.

I could see a 2 of Tielemans/Bissouma working in games where we're trying to break teams down, might be a bit open if Bissouma loses the ball on one of his runs up the pitch, but otherwise his stats on the defensive side are really good.

I'd see him as Conte's Fabregas option, he'd get plenty of games throughout the season, in many he may not be first choice but we'd have some flexibility to switch between setups. He'd give us a real complete midfield roster.

Wow, just fucking wow. It's not just that we are doing our business early, it's also that we are addressing all the weak spots. I mean, technically, with the signing of Spence we will have pretty much addressed all of them, with the only thing remaining being to add a little depth to some positions.

I mean, fucking wow!

I wonder where all the posters that were saying Levy ain't gonna change and will drag things on are.

I’m sure you could find a tweet from 3 weeks ago that said the exact same thing about the Spence transfer.

I’m honestly not sure why we would loan Winks for a season without an obligation.
Surely there are teams in the lower half of the Prem that he could do a job for — at worst, surely a team like Fulham would take a chance?
Getting 2/3 of his value this year and getting his salary off the books is better than a loan fee and 1/2 value next year.
I have to believe that his salary expectations might be playing a part.

I have my doubts about Tielemans in a midfield 2. He has some laziness that comes out in his game at times and that will drive Conte mad. Signing Tielemans would boil gooner piss though… :sonhmm:

With the talk of attacking midfielders, let's not forget Alfie Devine. I don't know if he's going on loan, but if not he could be a useful squad option, especially with 5 subs. If we can't sign a Tielemans/Eriksen, would be a shame to sign someone less good who blocks his progress.

The bigger difference is the end of the penny wise pound foolish strategy.

We used to buy 2/3/4/5 options that where cheap to fill holes then it turns out the manager doesn’t rate them so they take up room and we end up selling them for lower than we bought them after they do nothing. As The Absolute GOAT The Absolute GOAT pointed out s false economy.

Now we will spend the money if needed and have a clear plan of an overall squad. It’s treats purchases not as in individuals but as part of a wider plan, we see players as human beings working together and not as a used car we can sell for more down the road.
