Fair point. Perhaps one of those opportunistic deals where we'll just keep crouched in the long grass and pounce if the opportunity were to suddenly arise.
Gordon is probably their highest priced asset remaining, so Fat Frank may want to sell to get the cash for several players in.
But from our perspective, I think the ship has sailed. Like many here, I suspect Conte would have switched Gordon to WB, and with Spence, Lucas Moura & Sess, we now have three "development projects" at WB. Plus 3 more established players in Perisic, Emerson & Doherty.
Six WBs means the position group is full, and we almost certainly need to sell at least one before the season starts.
Plus, perhaps I'm oversimplifying but I felt like if Gordon came in the logical exit would be Lucas.
But Lucas seems to be happy to see out the rest of his contract here before moving on for free (maybe back to Brazil) and now appears to be being groomed to fill in at RWB.
We do our business and West Ham get their shot at the left overs.
I agree that Lucas clearly doesn't want to leave.
That would be a problem if, to paraphrase Mourinho, Lucas was a "shit professional". But he isn't. Lucas is a good professional, a good teammate, and happy to accept being a squad player. That kind of player is important for squad harmony over a long season.
Also, if Gordon was being considered not as a WB, but for a wide forward / wide AM role, and he'd cost a ridiculous HG English premium, is he better than other options we're exploring?
Memphis Depay for c£17-20m is a much better & more productive player.
Conte would surely prefer Zaniolo, if he's gettable, over Gordon.
As for Maddison, the guy is a total jerk, but again a more productive player than Gordon at this stage of their respective careers. And Conte is all about the NOW.
'Fucking the commercial impact' means the club not being able to pay transfer fees or player wages for the players needed to reach your hypothetical CL final. Or ending up like Everton, literally forced to sell their best player to us before submitting their accounts so they didn't fall foul of FFP rules.

I was assuming his best position is as a back up for Kulusevski as wide assist/goal scorer (and it doesn't matter too much whether he prefers right or left side)
Agree the ship may have sailed - but don't think that's 100% yet - so I'd hope Spurs are (politely) keeping in touch with the situation. The fact he's a decent HG option (and we have only a few quality options) which would take up a vacant squad place this increasing squad size to maybe 24 players is helpful too
The FA has its fair share of issues, and has a lot to answer to when it comes to clubs like City and Chelsea, but all of that pales in comparison to what is going on in La Liga.
Barca should be well and truly on the verge of breaking, and the measures they're using to get some additional revenue is last resort stuff that should be used to get them out of this hole and provide stability for a few more years. Instead they're blowing it all in a single transfer window.
IMO the remaining 5 weeks or so the window is open (and 2 weeks before new season starts)
will be a new phase where prices are cheaper for some players as clubs seek to sell unwanted players before window opened - most european clubs (other than Barca/Madrid/Bayern etc) currently have no cash due to covid so pricing will reflect lack of buying power.
Not sure that helps Spurs as we've already signed most of the best players we wanted in the respective positions. There will be a few good players coming n the market who might be attractive to Spurs, but few who will improve the squad, so it will be 'opportunistic buying'
On the other hand we have players to sell so club may well need to accept lowish bids, especially from impoverished clubs, even the bigger names such as the Milan clubs. .

Am I missing something or is this reckless beyond belief?
So they are selling the future money they will receive from TV deals, to a company that will give them the money now, and I assume the company gets more overall by the end than they are paying in a lump now?
So what do Barcelona do in 3, 4, 5 or 10 years time when they need money for signings and wages but are only receiving 3% of the money that they should be getting for TV because the rest has been handed over to this payday loan company?
Are they essentially just torpedoing their future so that they can scrape by today?

I wonder if they are pinning their hopes on a European super League being in place by then. Spend now to stay relevant and then get the finances fixed by being one of the main pillars of the ESL.
Well, to argue it objectively, Barcelona can certainly say this is legitimate revenue. But they have reduced their overall tv income by 25%.
I suppose it’s a loophole of sorts, but nothing more than a credit line.

It’s basically what loads of tech companies have done - take massive loans leveraging in the hope they get so big that eat up the debt in the future.
I don't question the legitimacy of it, on paper anyway, but rather whether it is particularly smart in the long run?
What crazy scheme will they have to think up next season?
Also, can this money even go towards wages/transfers anyway? Didn't they get a huge loan not that long ago that can't? And they still have to fall in line with La Liga rules which mean they currently can only go on to spend 1/4 of what they manage to get rid of from the wage bill I believe?
At least the traditional loan is with a view to growing your business.
Barca are simply taking a credit line to stay afloat.
But how much room for growth do Barca have?
They are already huge in terms of football clubs, one of the top two, and all that they have to show for it is being nearly broke financially.
