One of the best players I ever saw at the laneThink the dates might be messed up here.
His first season for us was pretty good. Him and Sandro were a fantastic central midfield pair. We only lost THREE league games Dembele started in that season (12/13). Everton (A), Liverpool (H) and Fulham at home.
His second and third seasons for us though? Pretty poor.
In the 13/14 season AVB had pretty much coached us to be the most boring team possible which hindered Dembele completely. Basically nullified him. Then Sherwood came in and it wasn't much better for him. Failed to make the squad in 9 of his 22 games in charge and subbed off at half time in 2 of his 11 starts.
Onto his third season (14/15) and Poch had come in. But again, not much better for him. I am not entirely sure Poch rated him all that much in the beginning. He only started 10 league games all season and we only won 5 of those 10 games he started in. Rumours of him leaving for Italy came in January that year and we were close to selling him.
It wasn't until 15/16 that we finally started to see the consistent Dembele we came to know and love. Which was four years and three managers into his Spurs career. And even then it took a while to get going. He started the season playing on the right wing and it wasn't really until October of that season did we finally start to realise, damn, Dembele is good. Performance at home to Liverpool. Other than injuries, fitness or suspension, Dembele pretty much started every single league game going forward from then. In the 11 games he missed that year, we only won 4 times.
Just loved watching the guy play football
This 2 man midfield conte likes is a slightly god forsaken task but if ever there was a player who could own it … it would’ve been Mousa
