But 80 million is a big number so he must be good.

He's good because he was pretty incredible for Leicester up until a bad injury, the price-tag has nothing to do with it.

He's been considered one of the biggest CB talents in the world for a while now, arrived at Leicester for a big fee despite being extremely young, and then went on to be one of the best defenders in England .. at the age of 19.

What is frustrating is that Chelsea, as ever, are spending with the clear intention of winning big. It’s ruthless ambition.

I have no complaints with Paratici. There have been some excellent and astute signings. All this talk of defenders, we’ve signed the best in Romero.

It’s just that inevitable feeling that we’re falling slightly short. It’s always risk averse and cautious.
Indeed, it doesn't quite feel like we are going for it. More like building over the next two transfer windows. That may be the best approach btw but meh...I have been waiting long enough.

God, if he’s our number 1 target, then I’m shit scared of who the “Contingency plan” is.

So was Kurt Zouma before his injury.

It's called FOMO and it's typically a poor reason to make an executive decision.

Kurt Zouma was never even close to as impressive as Fofana was in that first Leicester season. In fact I don't think Zouma's reputation has ever been at that level. Fofana was 18 or 19 and already going for close to 40 million despite only having played in France.

He's been incredibly highly rated within French football for a long time. The only risk here is injury & whether said fee places too high an expectation on him. The player himself has serious quality.

Disagree. And 'everyone' obviously wasn't meant to be taken literally. Just like when I say 'everyone' was saying Sterling would flop I don't actually mean every single person on this entire forum or everyone who supports Tottenham.

Yeh, I would have taken it that way, except the amount ("everyone"), manner ("screaming"?) and what was being said (which you've since watered down) were ALL over-egged in your OG post.

Bastoni, Gvardiol & Skriniar were all much discussed earlier in the window so (contrary to your OG salvo) obv it was commonly acknowledged that there were potential top targets (subject to the minutia of any potential deal)...... This was not the same as the RWB situ.

A few other names were tossed about, but no-one there was universal enthusiasm for (rather notably, last season there was much clambering for Torres, but by the time the window opened most fans had gone cold on him; such is the fickle-ness afforded the average fan... There's no 'jeopardy' to playing armchair-DOF.)

I thought Ndicka looked good, but people wanted "proven quality; not more prospects".

(Separate discussion, but I'm most curious as to how PSG & Inter didn't strike a deal over Skriniar in the end.....)

Who is the mega-RWB your posts now imply we've slept on, btw?

Even Conte must be embarrassed by what's going on.

Probably feels like the poor kid at school who had to take his own sandwiches while his mates splashed out in the canteen on decent nosh.
We will find out soon enough he won't hold it in he will rinse levy out in the media, be interesting how the club tie him down to a longer deal if he thinks he has been levyed like many managers and fans alike have had done over the years 😂
