Hypothetically - say RDZ has been in the ear of van Hecke at Brighton and wants us to spend money on him? We need to back RDZ and not Lange.

I think RDZ would want the profile as opposed to the player if anything.

Never been a fan of blindly backing managers though, it's much better if everyone was on the same page.

Kinda have a strange feeling that De Zerbi could try and get Osimhen. Know he’s on 300k tax free in Turkey, but maybe ENIC will be so shook by relegation they might go for it. DZ the kinda of manager who could handle a difficult character like him.

Can't agree. Whilst I admittedly have not seen him play much this season, some Liverpool fans seem to still really rate him. In any case, he's been one of my favourite ever PL LBs. He's pretty much a legend really. So to see him turn out for us next season will be really nice.

On top of that he's a winner, a perfect professional and a leader. Something we badly need.

I just cannot understand, after all people have seen the last two seasons, that fans are making the same mistakes and not wanting us to sign proven experienced winners. Madness.
Whether it's Robertson or someone else, proven experience and leadership is clearly something we lack so much and has contributed to our downfall.

Apparently standards really fell off under Frank with levels dropping in training and lots of players showing up late. Top pros and leaders don't allow that shit to happen and set the standards and culture.

The fact that our captain, Romero, was allegedy one of the latecomers says it all. Who even are the real leaders in this squad? Since Sonny left there's been a real vaccuum.

Palhinha, Maddison, Gallagher, Davies, Van de Ven? And aside from Madders none of them are especially vocal.

Like you say you have not seen him play this season. His legs have gone. His main strength was his aggression and relentless running on the left flank. He no longer does that. Weak in the air as well. Anytime we played a decent winger he'd be on toast. That is why Liverpool are letting him go.

I am not saying do not buy experienced players /leaders. I am saying buy the best ones in their peak years (26-30).

I don't think what you say is accurate. Liverpool fans have said he's played well this season. I remember the same being said about Milner and he went on to be a really effective PL for another so many years.

I am going to wait and see how he does for us, so at this stage I can't get on board with anyone saying this is a bad signing. Off the field it's an excellent one, much needed. On top of that, LB is hardly a position where there is an abundance of top talent around.

Exactly. He will be more than worth the signing, which is on a free, even if he just contributes a bit on the pitch, because off the pitch he will be a huge boost and presence. He knows how to uphold the highest standards. Exactly what we need.

People saying go out and sign players at their peak who are also amazing leaders, like they just grow on trees.

Yeah, top dressing rooms basically police themselves. The manager shouldn’t even have to get involved on some disciplinary issues. The leaders in the dressing room apply the standards. That’s what we need to get back to.

It’s easy to forget Sonny did next to nothing on his first season here in a much better coached and settled side. Even in year two he didn’t break into the side until the 2nd half of the season. Some players need time and guidance to find their confidence and potential.

When Son arrived, he had came on back of 2 seasons of scoring 10+ goals in Bundesliga. Season 1 of Sonny, we had Chadli who was in good form from season prior. We had Lamela, Eriksen & Dele in creativity. So Son came with a good reputation helped by peers who were in good touch.

Odobert best goals scoring season was for Troyes in ligue 1 in 2022 -23 - FOUR goals.

So, can we please stop talking about Odobert in terms of being a top class PL footballer. Mey be one day he will be. But we cant afford him to grow into it and wait. We have been waiting for 2 seasons now...

Go to the market , pay 80m or 100m for a player that is worth it. Whether its Nico Williams or Godts or whoever. Sure, it wont be easy to convince ,but show them the money and thats half the battle won.

This is where people get their wires crossed.

What you should have is an “idea” of they player profile type you want and you should have 3-4 options for that.

The problem with Spurs is that if they miss out on target A, then they go and get a completely different type of player.

It’s that same reason whey you see such extreme swings between the styles of coaches that we hire, and what’s left is an incoherent mess.

I'm 60/40 against for the Robertson signing, I think he's past it and is on his way down but he is definitely a leader we need and a vocal character in the locker room.

Who were the leaders in the Poch era?

I’d argue Poch was the leader himself.

I think what’s more important is that you have “glue guys” in the room that galvanise the dressing room, and this season we lost two of the best in Son and Maddison.

I think we need characters like this. I see it as more of as a stepping stone to where we need to get to.
This squad needs complete gutting. But that's not going to happen in the summer.
So experienced heads like Robertson could make a difference to the character in the dressing room.

Fair point, things do need shaking up in the short term.

Sonny is one of the greatest PL forwards of all time. They don’t come along very often. The pont I was making is young players need to be developed and we have been a completely farcically bad place to do that.

Of course we need to buy some players who are ready, but you’re talking about buying a young talent from Ajax where there is every chance he will need 12-18 months to adapt to the much more challenging nature of the PL too.

We need to sign players who hit the ground running and we need to develop players in parallel. Both things are true at the same time -it shouldn’t be zero sum. A talented coach and leader like De Zerbi will do that with time, of that I have no doubt.

Either handle him or it would end up in smoke.

It’s bloody obvious they need ready-now, top level attackers at LWF and CF.

Osimhen is probably the closest they could find to a sure thing at CF. Even if I’m not that sure on him in the PL.

They need to be willing to do the following IMO

LB-Robertson (FREE) not my choice but no transfer fee…

LCB - Senesi (FREE) see above

DM-Locatelli/Fernandes (60m)

LWF-Barcola/Similar (80-90m)

CF-Osimhen/Similar (80-90m)

Looks like Kinsky has saved them 50m on a GK and we could hopefully take Palinha on another season long loan
