Savinho is the most 'available' LW transfer we can get, only reason we are going for him is because he fills a position of need we've been 'trying' to fill for ages and we have been working on this deal for a while as he's seemingly keen to join, I don't think we're actually taking into account his form over the past 12 months, I'm assuming that the club are bringing him in in the hope that the coach can get something out of him.

My choice would be Ndiaye or Summerville personally, maybe the club and De Zerbi thinks that he has a higher ceiling than them, who knows.

Also Ndiaye and Summerville can cut in from the left and be a threat on goal.....Savinho cannot because he is so left footed

The context is everything. The numbers say that Savinho is one of the best ball carriers under 23 in Europe. I look at the way we’ve been playing under RDZ even in the last five games and how we can move the ball up the pitch, if we had two supreme dribblers like Savinho and Kudus up there we would be very dangerous.

Moving the ball up the pitch is fine but once you arrive in the opponents area where are the goals coming from? Both Kudus and Savinho have poor end product and it's not like we have a goal machine striker to finish off attacking moves:kaneear:

Also the LW market is pretty dead anyway, not many standouts in that position unless you happen to play for PSG, Real or Bayern - everyone is a much of a muchness really.

That's still not enough reason (in my mind) to go for a player who looks bang average.

If the evidence contradicted my thoughts then maybe it would be more a matter of my bias, but it's not. I just don't see anything that makes Savinho stand out - dribbling is fair, not particularly quick, not got a great shot on him, and is pretty much one-footed.

Is Savinho so much better than Mikey-Moore, who I would probably send out on loan for another season, for perspective.

Anywhere in that range for a 22 year old Brazilian proven in La Liga and had 2 goals, 12 assist across 2500 minutes of PL --> is decent fee. One that we could mostly recoup even if he replicates what he did at City.

Didnt he sign a new contract after the summer window?

(just checked) - yes, signed Oct 25 - deal to 2031 +1 year option

A brief search shows no sign of a release clause either

Id suggest were we to actually buy him - it will be at the prices of last season, no cheaper

Which, if true, would leave me preferring more established quality

I agree, completely, in general - DoFs should indeed be the ones making calls.

Practically though? Say he comes in next week, needs to build his team/understand ours (scouts etc), liaise with RDZ about wants and needs, evaluate the squad (and youth)....

.... without leaning on the work the club has already done is it possible he will even be in position to do a rebuild this summer?

Personally, I want to see this summer as RDZ says "jump" and the club say "how high"

Its the only way it can work.

By all means have them bring him options/lists/players/whatever - but he decides what he wants - and they just go make it happen

In that sense, I couldnt care less who actually does the business, could be any of them - so long as its got RDZs stamp of approval

I'm not saying we should go for Savinho, he's not my pick - I'm just trying to rationalise.

Moore isn't a winger really either, not explosive enough, he'll end up a 10.
