When you look a his peers from this season he is superior in every way to any other in the Bundesliga and Tuchel would have taken him with the England squad had he been English .

He was nominated for player of the season, and made the Bundesliga team of the season.

And before anyone bellows that the Bundesliga lacks quality of teams, I would ask why are so many clubs looking at him to add to their squads?

Twenty three, nineteen year old's made their PL debuts this season. I am not saying that they played week in week out, but they were considered good enough to debut, but for some reason Vuskovic isn't?

The end of the day it's going to be interesting in what De Zerbi decides to do, but if Gray and Bergvall are considered good enough then Vuskovic leaves both of those in his slipstream.

Farmer's League. Good accolade but the bloke needs to be tested in the PL.

Helps the selling price though, if anyone wants to make an offer the club can't refuse.

Wharton is not as good as many think. He needs to be better than he is.

He isn't going to United or City. That lot don't need him. Filth, the same you would think. Aston Villa may have different priorities, and Liverpool? Newcastle might be tempted, but would Wharton see that as progress - not sure.

Maybe Wharton goes abroad but I think he is a good to very good, but not brilliant player.

If he us nearing the last 2 years of his contract I suspect 1 or 2 clubs may bide their time.

Think this is a fair assessment but it's also why I think we can get him*. The pitch would be to give him the platform and the profile to basically do what Carrick and Modric did before him and prove himself at that next level above.

*if, indeed, De Zerbi even wants him or that profile of player.

Not going to pretend I watched a bunch of his Bundesliga games, but it sounds like speed and defensive awareness are huge issues. Those are the kind of attributes that really get exposed in the PL.

To his credit, last year he himself even said he has a lot to learn and go out on loan. It would be strange to send him out again, but if it's truly best for all parties it's a no brainer.

Also, classic twitter itk bollocks, basically a full lifecycle of a story in a day :langetroll:

So to sum up, the 'cost is mental, but not bad business'.

Do you work at sittingonthefence.com per chance?

:angryscouser:

The cost is mental, Im old enough to remember the first £1,000,000 player, the money is at a level now where its almost incomprehensible...

But, within that context, getting a player in who can hit the ground running in the league and this managers specific game, its good business

Me too but are we going to get everything we need all in this transfer window?

Didn't Vinai or Lange say something like "we know that we have to be very active in the following transfer windows, starting this Summer".

I guess that De Zerbi has stated that we have to shore up the defence, and then move forward through the squad.

I have no doubt that many agents have been in contact with Lange punting their players, but De Zerbi appears to have identified what positions and what players he would like to target.

I would think that he has also prioritized a striker given the fact that we have a pair of injury prone, zero paced, Championship level strikers.

Yes to all that.

If what many would consider, the 6 or 7 big clubs, of which I would consider us to be part of, don't come in for Wharton, that might tell its own story.

60 million is a ridiculously high price.

I'm not interested in what we paid for Richarlison or Johnson, and when Savinho out-scores and contributes more than both come back to me.

Prospect means nothing, until it is realised. Getting excited by a signing is fine, but the bloke has done next to nothing.
1. It is not confirmed at 60 and would be amazed if it's that high. Most likely base of 45-50 with add ons related to goal contributions + CL qualification.
2. Who would you sign at LW for 60m instead?

First PL side I've seen put out what is effectively their retained and released lists

I see they are still discussing a new contract with Harry Wilson - he becomes a free signing when his contract ends on 30 June. I think we've been linked, as any PL club can talk to the player a month before contract comes to an end.

Not even "retained"; just contract offered.....

V.V.Odd.

I get the feeling that Solanke will start the season as ST.

Not that I think he should but I think he will.

2 strikers, a midfielder (or 2), on top of anything we appear close to sealing.

And then we will see 7 or 8 leaving, in my opinion, including 1 or 2 that posters will probably be divided on.

De Zerbi was clear, without revealing too much, that he wanted 11 or 12 of the current squad.

Going by what's out there, that might well be the only option really.
Buy some young talent from somewhere and have them as back-up/competition for Dom.

To be fair to Solanke, he's not a bad player and it would be interesting to see what he can do in a team that's actually able to create for him.

Mate, I have no idea.

I simply said 60 million would be a very big fee, especially as we are yet to see anything that would warrant such an outlay.

We paid 40 million for Tel, and much as Savinho may be calmer, and possibly with a higher ceiling, does he possess Tel's courage or confidence?

Let's see if we sign him and then we can judge, but for 60 million, there needs to be real ad valorem. For half the price I would expect something, so......

tldr: Thinks we need more of a passer, thats not Scott, who is more like what we already have

Think we need to stop looking at theses wagon wheels and basic stats to judge what would be a good signing.

Just my opinion but we don’t need a passer imo, we need technically good players who can receive it on the turn , manipulate the ball , good 1 on 1 drag players out to create passing lanes . Don’t have to be amazing passers. We need midfielders who have got a bit of everything. Scott would be the talisman for out team under De Zerbi. He’s got the personality and presence on the pitch. Should be our top target

Thats a lumpy old price for Savinho. Feels well OTT. Lucky he didnt score 2 league goals last season or dread to think of the fee.

This is where the rubber meets the road, we either pay for a player that the Manager obviously wants, or we end up seventeenth in the league again because the cut price players Lange goes looking for.

As an EXAMPLE I wonder if Woolwich dithered over twenty or thirty million when they decided to buy Rice?

Silvinho has never had a true run (or starts) in Pep's City side, and if De Zerbi can see the possibilities with him then give him what he wants.

At least we know he can play at this level, and just needs confidence and a run in the first team.

Alternatively we can always send Lange into the depths of Europe to find another Soldado, N'Dombele or Janssen?

Does De Zerbi obviously want him? Or like many a Tottenham manager before will he just be happy to take him and sign off on it?

He isnt Rice, he isnt prem proven ay all. Its just potential at this point. I wouldnt have any doubt about overpaying for a Gibbs-White or Wharton by £20m because they are clearly quality and raise the level of the whole side. This is more like overpaying for the likes of Johnson or Tel, although suspect Savinho has a higher ceiling than both but its a big risk.
