If we change mentality there's no reason that midfield couldn't work against lesser teams, especially at home.

It is a joke that we have conceded possession to every team over the last few years no matter how good they are. That kind of setup prioritises off the ball work rather than ability on it.

If we get back to a system of dominating the ball, that midfield 3 would be hard to get near.

We are all definitely talking ourselves into it.

Spurs fans have to be one of the very few clubs that have fans that would even try to talk themselves into that MF 3.

Me personally, I'm already ball deep into believing it's the only way.

Not sure why Reggy is being dismissed. Udogie is just a kid. Davies showed last year he can’t play LB.

Remember most of Reggy’s short comings were in the attacking half. Final balls, crosses, finishing.

He won’t be asked to be an attacking/overlapping player for Ange. Also his speed is useful to break up/prevent any opposition counter attacks.

Think it's just all the reports saying he's surplus to requirements.

We'd all love nothing more these bit part players of the past to go up several notches and provide to be valuable this season.

Yet the Tottenham ownership saw fit to hire him and he rewarded them by staving off relegation and winning a trophy in his short tenure.

And so what? Is that supposed to make me a Woolwich fan? You won’t find a single post of mine in support of them on this site or any other — unlike some of the Saka Fan Boys around here.

Plenty of your posts in support of him. There’s a plethora of Tottenham heroes you can choose … what’s so important about this guys minimal achievements ?

It’s uncomfortable, unnecessary and altogether quite weird

It’s a tough one on VDV as I can see it from two perspectives. On one hand he’s talented, tall, rapid, good on the ball and at £30m on paper it looks a good deal. On the other hand though, he’s very inexperienced, completing 1 season for a rubbish Dutch side then had 1 season in Germany and now Wolfsburg are asking £30m for a player they paid £3m for a year ago. We all hope he’s a success but if he flops his value is going to crash, leaving us with a deficit we can’t recoup.
So fucking move on then. Or don't even be interested and waste valuable time in the first place.

Go for an 80-90m 'sure' thing like Gvardiol plus a cheap but decent HG.

It just reeks of total amateurism once more with Spurs.

and also refuse to understand him if he did attempt to speak any French.
I’m sure French people are extremely impressed by the ability of British people to converse with them in French when they come to the U.K…

The reality of most french people is they are happy when people try to speak french. They also speak in English to people if they realise their English is better than your french (often the case) or if time is an issue.

patently not true.

Had a 5 min convo with a Frenchman once describing how Nougat is actually a french word. he refused to even understand that Nougat was even a word and then finally, after taking my phone out to show him a picture, eventually he went "OOH OUI NOUGAARRR".
As if that wasn't the exact same fucking word I was saying the whole time.

I think his natural instinct is to carry the ball forward, which isn't possible in this exercise.
That was shockingly bad to watch. No width, no pace, no intensity. Not just Djed, the whole apparatus. Blimey. Play like this in the PL and you get punished. Oh wait, we did last year...

I've attended & run 1000s of coaching sessions and fuck me, I've seen better drills even at schoolboy level

My previous name is ‘The Ghost’. It reflects my father’s favorite player.
I am leaning toward ‘Spursy McSpursface’ for the next one.
A username makes you uncomfortable but posters who are cheerleaders for Woolwich, who openly want Spurs to lose and the hate for Spurs players here — Wankberg, ffs — doesn’t?
Now I find that altogether weird.

“Most french people”

… gives an example about one Frenchman, one time…

Aside from the absolute chore that it was to watch, I wonder what psychological impact it had on the players, coming away from every game feeling like they'd been outplayed by the opposition?

For a while you might buy in to it when you feel like your enacting the plan perfectly and taking the points, but after a while trudging off the pitch after getting dominated by Bournemouth, Brentford, Villa, Wolves etc must be dejecting even if you have gotten the win...

Other club's fans have an aversion to ultra possession-based football?

Spurs fans would be odd for wanting ultra possession-based football?

........It's not clear what you're getting at here.

You don't get overun if you have the ball all the time....

Conte's CM pivot was designed to get out numbered and not have the ball.

We are not going to have the ball all the time, and in the PL there are plenty of teams that can take advantage when they win the ball back especially if the opposition is left wide open and ripe to be attacked

We are going to need amazing defenders that can defend well on a one on one basis, are quick and who are smart.

That’s certainly been the case whenever I’ve been to France. I speak enough French to get myself into trouble but not enough to get myself out of it. I usually open a conversation with a self deprecating remark on how poor my French is. Of course, it’s gotten even worse over time.

On one occasion in a small town in the South West, I was forced to speak nothing but French for three days. I barely understood the regional dialect. The experience literally gave me a (blistering) headache.

I did three years of German in high school and found it far more difficult than French. The vocabulary is debatably closer to English but the grammar is harder.
