ok can we look at talent as well?

One of the potential cheaper cbs is clement lenglet who was with us last season and was shit. Having seen him perform to a shit level combined with us conceding a ridiculous amount of goal our board have decided he is a good permanent option.

Can you make an excuse for that please.

Has Lengelt signed for us?

EDIT: also what excuse - you made out like we have been shopping bargain basement for years and it has never worked out for us.

I gave multiple examples of inexpensive players that we have purchased that have all been fan favourites and played to a level WELL beyond their price tag.

I also gave some examples of expensive signings that did not work out.

SO your notion about the rinse and repeat of us only ever going for failed cheaper buys is nonsense. In fact, us going for more reasonably priced players in defence has served us better than not over the last 10 years.

You can simply admit you're not being very nuanced with your assessment instead of trying to move the goalposts.

TO be more nuanced myself about Lenglet..... as far as I am seeing we arent currently bidding for or looking to bring him in.

Despite that, I don't feel like he is as bad as is being made out and could likely do much better for us in Ange's system than Contes.

Did you watch him much for Barca?

Here are some comparison stats for Tapsoba vs Lenglet (Barca) vs Lenglet (Spurs) - the stats are per 90 mins

Jan Vertonghen - Around £10million
Toby Alderweireld - Around £12million
Kyle Walker - Around 5millon

Davinson Sanchez - Around £42million
Serge Aurier - Around £24million

Harry Maguire £80million.

When will people stop looking at price tags as an indication of how well they will do? It shows a very limited understanding of how football works.

I absolutely believe that we should be able to afford £40m for Tapsoba if he is our #1 target, but more than a few people need to realise that even if we whacked 100m on the table for an elite CB today..... No elite CB is gonna want to sign for this year's iteration of Spurs.

.....Even last summer the allure of CL didn't win out.

can't lie signing Adarabioyo and Lenglet to replace sanchez and tangana would be kidna funny. I dont think we will though, i think we'll start spending harry kane money in a couple weeks

btw your examples were horrendous.

Vertonghen and Alderweirld (walker to a lesser extent as naughton was the main target) were number 1 targets for the club. Its irrelevant how much they cost as they were identified as the main targets and we signed them which is the correct way you go about things if you are a proper football club with decent ambitions.

It's clear this window we have identified Tapsoba and VDV as the main transfer targets. Now if we fail to get them and end up with Tosin and Lenglet instead of those 2 then people are rightly going to be pissed off because its a case of us settling rather then actually obtaining the primary targets.

Same shit with Vicario. Was clear Raya was our number one target. Yes Vicario may end up being a good signing but right now for me it's a case of targeting someone else...failing to sign him...then targeting a cheaper option.

Yeah but Leeds 27 years ago

Has Lengelt signed for us?
I'm aware he hasn't signed but we are discussing things that are hypotetical.

you are talking about cheaper options not necessarily being worse options which is true BUT with Lenglet we know it is indeed a worse option yet we are still interested.

Can you explain to me why we are showing interest in a player we already have a pretty big sample size on in terms of performances...and that sample size showed him to be shit.

Perfect squad would be:

Vicario, Forster
Porro, Royal, Spence
Romero, Tapsoba, Van De Ven , Tosin
Udogie, Perisic, Sessegnon
Bentancur, Bissouma, Sarr
Maddison, Gallagher, Veiga
Kulusevski, Solomon, Son, Richarlison
Kane

Anyone else not on that list sell or loan out.

You're the one attributing numbers and meaning to them. We can have more than one main target, especially when we need two CBs.

I explained in the post I edited. One very disjointed season playing in a system that doesn't favour him isn't a good sample size for how well he could play under Ange.
