I don’t expect Sanchez and Tanganga to start many games because they never have. When Sanchez has come into a functioning side then he has played well though and has shown he can be trusted more than the hyperbole you read on here. Remember at the end of 21-22 when we got 3 clean sheets to end the season including against Woolwich in high pressure games? He was fine.

He’s just not a starter.

Tanganga is last choice pick.

Dier I would sell but is objectively better than his bad performances last season (rumoured to be carrying an injury too).

When people in here come in hot (on a spurs forum) about fringe players like Sanchez and Tanganga they are missing the point.

Dier has lost it. Too heavy, slow and his decision-making has slowed down too. I'd be happier with Tanaganga getting minutes in a high line over Dier.

No it isn't. It's based on where we were last season and the fact that pre-Conte in a 4 we hovered around 7th and since then multiple teams have got much better defensively i.e Villa, Woolwich, Newcastle etc. All massively improved in this regard. Until this group show otherwise, they're probably 8th/9th best. Why do they belong above them? We've got one serviceable CB, a completely unproven/raw goalkeeper, some young attacking full-backs only proven in a 5 and an Emerson.

I wanted Porro because at the time we were well in for top 4 and spent the entire window pissing about with him. Either drop the transfer entirely if you're not committed to Conte, or get him in and commit long-term to the 3/5 at least if not Conte. Instead we did neither. We bought the player, sacked Conte and completely changed style. And then some fans blame OTHER supporters for this transfer rather than the owners.
Villa, Woolwich and Newcastle have had one season where they have looked better than us. Just one in about 7 years.

Let’s calm down a little bit.

The fact they went from being worse than us year after year after year and then got better in a bad year for us shows how quickly things can change in football.

You need to go back and look at the long term statistics, take a deep breath, and realise what the anomaly is. Clue: it was last season.

There’s a saying in Italy, if you’re born round you aren’t dying square.

That’s how I feel about almost all of our defenders sans Romero. They’ve had too many chances to think they are of the quality required for us to win things.

Sure we can pontificate and make narratives as to why they might be a little better under Ange. But you know what I’d like? Players who we don’t need to make any excuses for.

Sanchez isn't "fringe" we're one injury away from him playing.

Woolwich finished 2nd last season and conceded 20 goals less than us yet they've gone out and spent 40m on a defender who can challenge the starters. They also spent 20m on a prospect for that position in Jan, meanwhile we're negotiating over 5m for Ashley Phillips. They also spent circa 110m on a CDM.

This is called being aggressive, hungry and ambitous in the market. "Well they can't be as bad as last year" is the exact opposite of that sentiment.

And yeah-yeah "gooner" "praising the rivals" whatever, it's true. We're practically sedimentary in this transfer market and completely ignoring the biggest issue the team had all of last season. And people like you are excusing it by convenient coach blaming as if we don't have serious personnel issues.

Football is an immensely complex game, acting like those couple of seasons actually means anything is so ridiculous. We've had a fair bit of turnover in personnel in that time.

Off the top of my head, we've had Toby, Dier, Sanchez, Romero, Rodon, Aurier, Doherty, Reguilon, Emerson, Davies, Porro, Perisic, Sessegnon (and more?) in that back line in that time frame.

Acting like you can actually infer anything from the number of goals conceded in those seasons is just ignorant.

What is obvious from judging the players on their actual attributes is that they're not good enough. Dier obviously refuses to tackle, constantly passes to the opposition, there's no statstical bollocks you can pull to argue otherwise.

That Sanchez can barely walk without tripping over is unarguable. Etc etc.

So why the hell should we pin our hopes on Ange getting more out of these clowns instead of just getting rid of them and getting CBs that don't ask so much of the manager?

No idea what the fuck these other idiots are going on about.
So all of the people inferring something from the number of goals conceded last season are wrong?

A simple “yes” will suffice.

No it wasn't. We've gone backwards and other teams have gone forwards. Newcastle have obviously improved immeasurably since 2-3 seasons ago, Villa have signed a very good defensive coach AND signed Pau Torres, Woolwich have signed a 110m DM, Saliba's come in to the team, Timber etc etc..

If you're expecting us to magically go ahead of them just because "football changes" then you're living in a dream world. It changes because teams go ahead and make it change with the right transfers, hence why..

SIGN SOME FUCKING DEFENDERS YOU BALD CUNT!!!

Do you remember when I said that we need to sign a new centreback?

We can’t have sensible discussions on here because people are constantly creating strawmans.

Do the staff working on transfers work weekends?

Levy for example? He's just got back from the tour, probably knackered and jet lagged. Getting on a bit too. He's taking this weekend off for sure. Who can blame him?

But isn't this where a modern organization has a Paratici or whoever that can be calling clubs and agenst that are still working with weeks to go in the transfer market?

Surely some movement could have been happening with the likes of Rodon, Sanchez, Reguillon, Spence, Japhet?

It's funny how some are more forgiving of some things than others of other.... :)

As a far as I'm concerned; if Levy is DOF-by-proxy this summer then that's his own cross to bear... He should be hammering his zoom account on a daily basis, tour or no tour, London or Singapore until we have CBs through the door...... If he's been told to come back next week by BL or W'burg then get on the case and try and get some other shit moving; otherwise it's work that'll bottleneck and cause panic in other areas later down the line.

...If we have the other head scout bloke temping 'upwards' then shouldn't he be busting his arse trying to endear himself enough to get the job full time?

You're acting like people are wrong to be panicking/getting angry at the situation and it's bullshit. The situation is shit. The fact we were 6th/7th best defensively under Jose when sitting in and cowering for 90 minutes doesn't change the shitness.

1 CB would be the absolute bare minimum and should have been done weeks ago.

It doesn’t take much for people to panic or get angry!

The end result will be important. Clearly if we end up scraping in Lenglet then that will not be good enough. If we have to wait another couple of weeks and get a top quality defender in at the last minute then there’s been a lot of wasted cortisol.
