I don't think it's excessive for him to have more say in transfers, especially in our case where Levy is still consulting Paratici.
To reiterate, you have no idea what guarantees he asked for but it was enough for three top clubs — including two of the most liberal spending clubs in the world — to disengage. Do you think Poch agreed to go to Chelsea without input on transfers? Yet he took the job on conditions that clearly didn’t work between Nagelsmann and Chelsea.
So, the evidence tends to suggest that Nagelsmann’s demands were excessive rather than three chairmen independently.

It doesn’t take much for people to panic or get angry!

The end result will be important. Clearly if we end up scraping in Lenglet then that will not be good enough. If we have to wait another couple of weeks and get a top quality defender in at the last minute then there’s been a lot of wasted cortisol.

Because we behave this way in the market all the time and it is incredibly frustrating.

What counts as "top quality" here? If we sign VDV on the last few days of the transfer window, you think that would be satisfactory?

Nagelsmann could be this seasons Conte if Ange goes a bit Nuno early doors.

You come across as very emotional. I’m sure you could add more value than you do because you’re a smart guy. Maybe this is just a place for you to let it all out.
I'll be honest, I don't have a high enough regard for your position on this "debate" to bother putting in the effort to properly debunk your nonsense.

It's never worth the effort.

There’s a saying in Italy, if you’re born round you aren’t dying square.

That’s how I feel about almost all of our defenders sans Romero. They’ve had too many chances to think they are of the quality required for us to win things.

Sure we can pontificate and make narratives as to why they might be a little better under Ange. But you know what I’d like? Players who we don’t need to make any excuses for.

Not unreasonable; but can we also be a little less melodramatic and acknowledge the fact that our first XI back-4 is more than likely to be:

Porro (or Royal) / Romero / NEW-LCB / Udogie

and not:

Doherty / Dier / Sanchez / Sessengon (or some other nightmare combo)

???????

It's funny how some are more forgiving of some things than others of other.... :)

As a far as I'm concerned; if Levy is DOF-by-proxy this summer then that's his own cross to bear... He should be hammering his zoom account on a daily basis, tour or no tour, London or Singapore until we have CBs through the door...... If he's been told to come back next week by BL or W'burg then get on the case and try and get some other shit moving; otherwise it's work that'll bottleneck and cause panic in other areas later down the line.

...If we have the other head scout bloke temping 'upwards' then shouldn't he be busting his get trying to endear himself enough to get the job full time?

This is the question I', aksing because it's now clear as day that transfer activity froze with Levy away, so there can't have been anyone temping up.

As understanding as anyone can be - and if you have worked a tour of any kind you will know how shattered they all will be - this football club is too big to have such an archaic structure.

He's got more howlers than Harry Maguire. Stop trying to make it seem OK that he's still here.

I’m not going to have strong feelings about a player I haven’t seen play. Same with Tapsoba.

If that happens then ask me in October for some initial impressions.

My point is simple... Whatever the structure; these are "I'll rest when I"m dead" big money jobs...... I expect that degree of application; be it from a chairman who is extremely hands-on or recruitment staff (in the peak months of their year)...... Sleep in September....... The mere mortals that pay their wages would love to be in such privileged positions.

It's not about the player we don't know, it's about the player we know we need.

If the club have decided Tapsoba is their top target, they need to have some conviction and get it done.

I'm not judging Tapsoba on what I think he is, I'm expecting him to be what the club thinks he is.

And we really fucking need that player.

We are agreed.

Based on the tour and how quiet it's been since they got back this week, it doesn't come off like that's what is going on.

To repeat Chavs and PSG have controlling chairman, I think Poch wasn't that bothered about what input he has he just wanted the job. Just like when he was with us he accepted Fazio etc, eventually his frustration grew. I think to go to the blue scum he was very desperate to get back in work.

You seem to think if a club has conviction then that is SUFFICIENT to sign a player.

But players have interests and motivations and agency so as NotThatTedHughes NotThatTedHughes has clearly laid out, your assertion doesn’t hold true in reality. It’s messy out there and we’re dealing with probabilities.

What are you talking about?

We are talking about Tapsoba

When Sanchez has come into a functioning side then he has played well though and has shown he can be trusted more than the hyperbole you read on here.
Sanchez had one decent season a long time ago. Since then he's been erratic. We can't rely on him and a few good games at the end of last season doesn't excuse him. We need to get rid of him.

Our defence desperately needs a Ferguson-style refresh. It's stale and it's absolutely not too much to ask for new CBs this very window. Going into this coming season armed with what we've had for the past however long is such a poor show of ambition and it's not going to end well.

All that said, I think club will come through with a CB (probably the bare minimum as usual but I hope to be proved wrong). We'll see.
