More from Ornstein...

“The indications right now are that Harry Kane doesn’t want to sign a new contract with Spurs, but equally the soundings are that he really is impressed by Ange Postecoglou, and is enjoying training.”“You never know, Kane has always wanted to succeed with Tottenham, if there’s signs of an upturn and the trajectory is positive and Spurs are challenging for Champions League qualification, maybe even trophies next season, it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that he does extend his stay at Spurs."

He wouldn’t agree to sign a new contract now, even if it something he would really consider doing.

He know his wages will be high anywhere (Spurs, Bayern, RM, etc), so his evaluation of Spurs will absolutely be about how competitive the club is this season and likely to be going forward.

He probably likes what he sees thus far, but it is too early to really make any conclusions about Spurs being competitive.

Logically and objectively, he would wait until at least the January transfer window before agreeing to any extension with Spurs. He will have the following by then:

(1) information about how serious and capable Tottenham is about winning;
(2) information about the range of his wages… got to assume they’ll be very similar across the board unless Levy is a massive cunt

We'd have to be doing far more than "challenging for Champions League qualification" to get him to sign a contract. What a daft suggestion.

So be it.

There is always January at a lesser cost to them.

The cost of probably letting Kane go now is maybe estimated to be greater than the 100 million we are being offered.
Well if we can afford to let him go for free we should have more than enough for a rebuild. We should be able to spend 90/100m on his replacement if we wanted to.

Forget about "you never know" ..... If he goes into next season without signing a new contract is not worth the risk. The types of clubs and offers he will receive from teams knowing he will be a free transfer will absolutely blow away whatever Spurs can offer. Don't be a twit Levy

I think Levy can and will offer Kane enough money that Harry’s decision to leave will not be based on wages.

It will cost Levy £80 million just to somewhat replace Harry. Might as well pay him £500,000 per week (or more) to keep a sure thing at Spurs.

Pep was right, we really are the Harry Kane team.

Looks like he's staying now and I'm glad, but unless he signs a new deal he'll be able to join any club he wants next summer even Chavs or Woolwich.

We may regret playing silly buggers with Bayern, who were offering a more than fair amount plus getting him out of England so couldn't play against us.

Ange will end up having to shut down entire press conferences though as all some people will want to speak about is Harry Kane, even if we've won a game or signed someone for the first team.

Levy may have 'won', but in the long term this may be seen as a loss.

Good to know that we're so rich we can afford to let our best player leave on a free.
