The amount of players we have here unwilling to leave despite knowing full well they are not in the managers plans tells us the absolute garbage mentality they have and what we have been stuck with.

Say what you want about Hojbjerg but his attitude absolutely confirms he has a winning mentality. Not fancied anymore and decides its best to leave almost immediately as well as still making himself available for us.

If you read what I said, I didn't buy it.

But do you think he's good enough to replace Kane?
Because that's the wider issue here, we've basically gone from a 25 goal a season striker to a 10-15 goal striker.

Which is I suppose why some people are saying we need to sign another forward.

No striker we buy is going to replace Kane - there's a reason that many call him either one of the best or the best striker in the world, and that is he score goals consistently every season at a higher rate than almost anyone else.

I suspect the reason why we bought him is he recognised the need for a good striker, and despite looking round extensively decided Richarlison was the best available. Its similar this window, I've seen people mention Lukaku, Vlahović, Martinez, David, Toney, Orban et al, and to be honest I don't think any of these are world beaters. So if we buy a striker I'm pretty sure I won't be that excited by whoever we buy.

We have bought Maddison though and I think he will help replace Kane - gets a fair few assists (Kane has been one of our most creative players as well as a goal scorer) and maybe a dozen goals a season. IMO no single player will replace Kane, its going to be a group of players who each score a few goals, whether they play as a forward, in midfield or even in defence - and given the number of chances created with Angeball that isn't so far fetched

Son is not a specialist CF and neither is Richarlison. Both are best coming off the left. That's my claim. If you're happy going forward with those two and adding no one after selling Kane then I have no problem with that opinion. The Club should think differently though if they are serious about rebuilding the squad.

Pls don't attempt to strawman me.

By all means kick back an suggest what the club 'should' think; but if Ange sees these guys as viable then one has to accept that saying "They're not STs" is moot.

(With regard to me being "happy"....... I just don't know of any STs out there that would be available and enticing enough for me to want to see us spend a large % of the Kane dosh on. I also think that using Kane's name to emote away from the original premise of our exchange is weak rhetoric.......... If we'd just binned off a shit ST instead; Rich wouldn't be any more or less qualified.)

Let's be brutally honest here..... All the "Rich has never been an ST" rhetoric only bubbled up over the course of the last 2 games. He's played a large chunk of his career at ST and even plays there for his national team ahead of other career STs (Jesus, Firminho).

Again; if you don't think he's good enough for us then that's a different debate.

IMO a lot of players do this as a job - so at Spurs they have fairly high wages (we are probably in top 10 payers in europe) in London ( a big draw for many wives) and with excellent facilities such a training ground.

So if you want volunteers to possibly take a pay cut, move to a less attractive city such as Newcastle and have less good training facilities etc ......... some players are not going to fancy the change in lifestyle.

Not directly, we still have Sanchez and Tanganga on the books - we knew early Summer that Dier was going to stick around so this shouldn't affect anything.
Tanganga is basically a non entity. Homegrown and on low wages. Clearly he's a deadline day loan and I doubt his presence really prevents anything.

If we had sold/moved on 1 of Dier or Sanchez by now we would have space for the second CB.

With the remaining of the two becoming our 4th choice.

A player just deciding to "stick around" shouldn't be harming the club. We have power in this too. Pay him off in a worst case scenario or find him a move (he's not a dumb guy he would accept a loan as opposed to being frozen out for a year).

Fair.......... Dier/Barca was a bit of an odd one but I suspect it was Ange conjuring a scenario where he was paid respect as a senior whilst being given enough rope to hang himself (whlist the proper back-4 stayed at home and worked in preparation for Brentford. Some nice 'chess' if so (even if ED has buried his head in the sand since)........

Fuck knows what Hugo's agent has been doing all summer though........... If reports are true a fee had actually been agreed with Lazio so as much as I'm suprised to he fee being spoken of; it seemingly wasn't a problem in getting that move over the line.

I just think it's a simple case of him thinking he default deserves #1 status somewhere and that if that meant him going to a smaller, less affluent team/league, we'd probably forgo to prospect of a fee......

Lazio will have CL money and had a decent campaign last seas so if they're prepared to to slip us a few mill then no harm done........... Nice or some french jobbers it's probably a barrier to a deal happening given Hugo's not insignificant wage-band.

If we paid Lloris off he could pick and choose any club that will give him the#1.

Really don't get why that hasn't just been done now.

Tanganga's Italian agent sold him dreams of playing for Inter. Pavard deal seems to be progressing.

Hopefully he take the move to Luton

Cos it doesn't really matter to us if he leaves now or at 11pm on 31st Aug.

.......Even with Dier; if it got to the 11th hour and we needed an exit to balance our squad numbers it's "bye bye Eric; take your 4m and fuck off".

These aren't impregnable roadblocks; they're just annoyances.

This is all well and good but doesn't argue against anything I said, the club knew he wasn't going to move this Summer so t's not as if Dier has hampered the transfer plans...Ali G and Dan KP already put it out there in May that the club were always chasing 2 CB's.

I suspect they expected to get both Sanchez's and Tanganga's wages off the books, you can't just aside Tanganga as a 'non entity' because we are still paying him and he's taking up a squad place.

Also I'm really not a fan of paying players off or ripping up contracts, horrible way to do business and sets a bad precedent within the club.

It does matter if we are waiting for him and Tanganga to vacate squad places before we bring in another CB.

Which seems to be what Ange is saying and what Ali G said last night.
