You’re thinking too short term. Is Lo Celso really part of this team’s future ? One decent preseason suddenly erases years of dross ?
No one is Maddison replacement just like no one is a Biss replacement.

Lo Celso is the only player who’s been named to the squad in both matches that hasn’t seen the field yet. Thought it was strange he didn’t come on vs Brentford who were content just defending.
Could be something. Could be nothing.
Eze would be close. Not got the same quality as Maddison but would offer difference to Sarr and Bissouma.
And Eze is a strong ball runner. We miss that.
Consistently reliable and professional imo.
VdV plays at LB as and when Udogie gets injured and we sign a top CB.
i.e. not in the near future.

The GLC situation is complicated. He's friends with Cuti and is taking young Veliz under his wing (a/c to social media posts). Perception matters for culture & squad harmony, and we have to be seen to be treating GLC fairly.
Currently, I think Ange sees GLC as back-up to Maddison, in the creative CM role, & if Maddison gets crocked we will need him.
I am surprised Ange didn't give GLC a few minutes late on in our first two games when Maddison was looking knackered.
Against yanited, PEH, who doesn't look like he's staying, got minutes ahead of Skipp who is, which also suprised me.
Ultimately, we all have concerns about GLC's durability and ability to impact PL football, as opposed to La Liga where he has proven to be effective.
Barca, Napoli & Villa under Emery are all sniffing around GLC, and there are rumours we rebuffed a Villa approach after Buendia got his season-ending injury. So you can see why GLC may be concerned if he feels he's getting mixed messages.
Unfortunately, Barca are a financial mess and Napoli seem to want another loan with option to buy, which is rubbish.
The best outcome would probably be to sell PEH & GLC and use the funds to buy Eze. But such a scenario seems unlikely.

Until another club offers a fair offer, say £25m/£30m, which will still leave Spurs with losses (from the player who prioritises playing for Argentina over the club paying his wages and spends a lot of time after playing for Argentina in sick bay or to rest before next Argentina match) then you stay and play what suits the club.
And on past form he's a long way from being an automatic starter in what is a strong midfield even with Bentancur out injured.
Need to prepare an offer (£25m or so) from another club to take effect probably next summer when he can leave.

I agree but it's about a mix. We will never fill our squad with young talent alone.
Its about building a strong squad then pushing the boat out when it matters to add the missing link.
B4 buying rice, Woolwich already had decent midfield options bought smartly. Partey, Odegaard, Xhaka.
Rice transforms it to an excellent set of midfield options.
I think Ange was probably testing GLCs reaction to being on the bench but not then asked to come on and if this report is true then GLC has failed the test. Ange wants people who he can count on, not weak minded whingers.

We have only subbed one midfielder per game. Sarr for Skipp to chase a goal against Brentford, Maddison was doing great and Bissouma was needed for defense.
Then Hojbjerg for Sarr against Man United to be more defensive. No need to change Maddison or Bissouma.
Not playing GLC is nothing. Our midfield has been great both games and only changed due to late tactics. GLC will get chances this next week with the cup match.
He’s a consistent, solid player that can indirectly win matches like last night. Seen nothing to suggest he’s not robust, and high risk to injury. Forget the money, he massively improves their 11 and squad and is value regardless.
