I must admit, I'd rather roll the dice on Alex Scott or Hatate if Maddison was showing disinterest/if the net difference in price could be used more effectively elsewhere in the squad.
We should be doing that full stop. Maddison doesn’t fit in with our timeline…

He gets us back into Europa in the short term.

However an investment in younger players with a higher ceiling can put us back into contending position in 3 years.

His stock has risen dramatically since we were last in for him, but he's still a bang average player who isn't the sort of midfielder the squad needs.
That was due to him having a good WC, I believe.

Too many times we've seen players up their level at international tournaments, only to regress back to their norm. Right after the buying club gets massively fleeced.

I've not really seen much of him at club level, but if the comments here are anything to go by, I'd give him a swerve.

Mind you, we're low hanging fruit for a transfer story, new manager, change if direction etc, so I suspect we'll be linked with just about everyone this window, instead of nearly everyone.

Yep, we act like a poundshop outfit. Deal with it.

You don't like it? So sorry, deal with it.

You want ENIC out? They ain't going nowhere. Deal with it.

It's really funny watching you guys spinning your wheels about something you cannot affect one iota. I'd sure as hell hate to be in your state of mind. I'd have an aneurism. But hey, knock yourselves out. At the end of the day you'll just have to, yup you got it,... deal with it.
I see Zomb disagreed with this post. To him I say... Deal with it! :p

No I don't believe we were, Newcastle are not going to spend all summer waiting for a price drop.
Brace yourself for, a cheaper imitation and or some loan signing punt.

There are better options that might cost less IMO.

Eze for a start.

Getting Raya in as HG helps the decision-making pressure as well.

It's all guesswork from us but as good as Maddison is, it just doesn't have the gut feel of being what Postecoglou needs.

Will say this though, Kane would be encouraged by Maddison arriving.

I think he would rather join Newcastle, CL football, settled team, megabucks backing, but it's probably his model girlfriend pushing him to join a London club, doesn't matter which one. We need to steer clear of players who don't really want to be here
I got told he was very very keen to come to Spurs way before we blew the ECL and he still sees us a better option than Newcastle in the short term any way. To be honest I've a small preference for Scott. Think he will way better under the right coach.

If Kane stays, then yes , he wants to be in a decent team with good players, that want to achieve things.
I'm not sure as Eze myself, but whatever the manager wants is the thing.

I think this may well be the model we go back to now we have Ange who can coach younger players and mould into his tactics.

I really enjoyed the days when we picked up English youth prospects. It had direction and future thought.

Shame they cost an absolute bomb these days, but market values and HG tax and all that

Of course Kane wants to be on a good team but what a player sees as a good player and what a scout or new coach sees as good players can be very different.

Kane would probably see an England team-mate and proven as more ambitious than searching out value elsewhere in the market.
