Scum spending 90M on Rice, 60M on Havertz and 60M on Lavia in one window despite bring eithout CL football for 5-6 years… fucking hell
Woowlich are currently £89m on the wrong side of FFP compliance (their combined losses for the last 3yrs is £194m (2019 = £33m loss, 2020 = £98m loss, 2021 = £63m loss). The Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability (P&S) rules (FFP) allow a maximum allowable loss of £105m for the previous 3yr period.

Obviously, 2022 accounts aren't available but what extra money did they earn over and above 2021 season? Looks like £20m was made on player sales (but they spent £176m), approx £1m per PL placing so 5th to 2nd = £3m + no doubt as they were in a title challenge they would earn additional TV money £5-£10m??? = Unless Saudi's are gonna buy the rapist for £200m they need to sell a few players.

Are wages as mental in other leagues as they are in the pointy end of the prem?

Seems we'd either have to lock players into long term deals to get the most out of their peak or accept we'd have to sell players to rivals.

Players like Slabhead and even a few of our own are priced out of the market on wages. Not everybody can get Saudi investment countries to buy the dead wood like certain teams.

You still believe in the tooth fairy, too?

FFP is a bogeyman myth the top clubs tell the rest of the league to make sure they don't get out of bed at night.

Changing the topic slightly but we weren't always this shit at transfers.
Dele, Eriksen, Toby, Jan, Dembele.

The biggest problem with Levy is when he consistently blames manager after manager for the transfer flops caused by not having a clue what he's trying to achieve.

The perception that he's cheap was almost created by him when he brought in expensive cheque book managers and didn't spend what it takes to get the specific type of players those managers need to win.

If we had stuck to the road we have just gone back to, the recent transfers wouldn't have been such a mess.
Yes we were, add to those you mentioned Bale,Modric and VDV but if you look at the whole timeline starting with Glenn Hoddle, there is a whole bunch of shite and average signings.

Never heard of the guy. He could turn out to be absolute pants but here’s the thing: we berate the scouts for not unearthing a Calceido but when we’re linked with an unknown we moan about the fact that we’re linked with unknowns. It’s pure bipolar behavior.
Yes but that is based on our track record of unearthing gens. Apart from dele in recent years anyone else? Also do you trust levy Cullen and crew to know a decent footballer even if it was pele?

We’ve always had some shit transfers.

Is there a team that doesn’t.

But the scattergun, opportunistic style that Levy has is outdated and teams see it coming I.e, Brentford not accepting the opportunistic situation with Raya that Levy is going for. They are refusing to budge from the accurate value of the player regardless of contract length because they know we want the player

It’s great they want to go at a data led approach but doesn’t change the fact that the game is up on his policy of chasing opportunistic value..

Sure contract length and player interest is always going to be part of a strategy but it can’t be all of it if we want to compete anymore.

At some point this data approach will also have to start identifying the right player instead of the one that’s hopefully close enough but a good opportunity

The last couple of decades have seen an explosion of value alongside parallel increases in media rights fees.

That growth has plateaued and the Spurs asset really only makes sense as a Champions League outfit, something the club is rapidly retreating from.

If we're a midtable side in five years, the sale price will be lower than today.

We're going to be a midtable side in five years under ENIC.

From Sugar back to Sugar, in the fullness of time
Chelsea ended up with 1bn extra on expectations and pumping in another load. United are being offered more than last year etc. The growth did plateau I agree but with a fresh wave of middle eastern money it seems to be on an upwards trend again.

Ange is a good move.

Recruit players that fit the way he wants to play, stick to the plan and we are good.

Reality is that we are always going to be financial underdogs to clubs with Oil money behind them.

Personally don’t care as long as there is more to the club and players than just that. Get academy kids playing, make the culture about the club and team being above individuals. Get the fans loud again.

The last one may be the hardest for them to achieve at home with the corporate feel of the place. WHL had history and culture in the walls. New stadium doesn’t have any yet
Agree. Last part is criminally overlooked by the club. The new ground is awful, needs some serious thought into how it can pump some atmosphere, must be a stifling place to play football.

We had that data approach with Mitchell and he resigned because of Levy.

Players like Diogo Costa and Szosboslsai are out of our range.

These are the level of players we spend a long time chasing and ultimately it falls through. Always for a completely valid reason.

May as well save everyone the bullshit and go after players that we might realistically sign
If we just needed one player this summer they wouldn't be out of our range. We need to get there.
