I'm one of the first to criticise the club and how they operate but credit where it's due , this is a good signing at a good price

More like this hopefully

Not sure I'd call that a squad assembly, at least at a CL level of ambition, but it's a sustained work of quality and coherent scouting, and what a blessing that is after where we've been.

The stage we're at it's about having 15/16 players capable of getting us back there; not CL worthy squad depth.

(Hopefully you see the distinction I'm making)

Reckon we still need 2 CB's, a pacy WF to compete with Kulu and Son
1 CB, keep Dier and get 3 promising young uns whatever their positions and start a cull - would sell about 12 so. Lloris, Sess, Sanchez, Rodon, Spence, PEH, Tangana, Richy, Perisic to go with Lucas, Lenglet and Danjuma. Also open to Royal, Skipp, Dier and Davies if the price is right and we have new blood in their positions

If we add Tapsoba and he hits the ground running, I’d back us as the third best team in the league behind City and Woolwich assuming Ange knows what he’s doing.

Conte’s managerial performance last season was the worst I’ve seen since the AVB/Sherwood season, hard not to imagine an uptick in quality there. Lloris was also terrible and has been replaced, plus our back line should be significantly improved through the transfer window plus Udogie and a full season of Porro.

Maybe I’m delusional, but with the right additions I feel like we’re capable of a serious bounce back season. I think there‘s alot of talent in this squad there were just some glaring gaps at CB and GK last year. Outside of City who can match Kane, Son, Maddison, Richarlison, and Kulusevski as an attack? That’s an all time legendary goal scorer, a guy with 100 PL goals, Maddison and Richarlison both have double digit PL goalscoring seasons, and Kulusevski is a massive young talent.

I’m expecting serious return to forms for Richarlison and Bissouma and Maddison is another proven at the PL level. A couple decent backline additions and if Ange is up for the task and I think our squad is just as good if not better than Utd, Newcastle, Liverpool, and Chelsea. The only shame is that Bentancur won’t be fit to start the season.

If Maddison has another level this is an even better signing than what it appears.

Absolutely a Tottenham-type player who would NOT have signed had Conte still been manager.

Leicester must be under the pump.

I hear you.

I just think that's a very 8th place-y team without Kane. Promise for the future though if we're willing to act robustly and sensibly to see that promise through.

Hands up; I hadn't clocked the no-Kane factor.... Yet, with circa 100m to inject into that core you'd expect further reinforcement still.

That said; I'm still inclined to think that a year of Kane could be the best kick start we could gift to Ange to get him up and running. My attitude to the fee is the that club accounts can't miss what they never featured; and we'd still have money to spend next summer regardless......... Perhaps projected CL income too having been once again fired into it by England's Finest.
