After conceeding 60 odd goals last season, we should get 3.

The defence gets blamed a lot but a portion of our goals came from the lack of pressure from the front guys and the spaces that the oppo were getting into.

Any defence will look shit if you're not cutting off the supply in the first instance.

All of them need to be playing games though. We have one game a week. We can't just be chopping and changing our back line.

Combined, those two would be 80m+... Not sure we're going to be bringing in that amount of centre back talent with the idea of not playing our 40m centre back already here.

If we were in Europe, yes. I'd understand. But our squad is bloated enough as it is. We currently have 6 centre backs on the books..
5 centre backs currently isnt it? I think its pretty clear none of those 5 outside Romero have a future at the club and most will go this summer, even if its loans. (I suspect Dier stays for the last year of his contract) If you're a serious club, with aspirations of achieving something you need 3 front line centre backs. Tapsoba can play either side, VDV left back so there is flexability there. I think with Romeros fitness record, suspensions and international jaunts there is plenty of minutes for all 3. Tapsoba would have ACN as well.

100 % correct. Hojbjerg and skippy plodding about and a front 3 that never got out a jog when the opportunity was there to press was just as big a problem as our defenders not doing the basics of defending at times.

Willing to bet it won’t be Tapsoba. As soon as Maddison got done, that was the big splash of the window.

But VdV, Tosin, Lenglet, Romero makes a lot of sense.

Could see Tosin keeping Romero out the team if he goes to far on Argentina train

I don't get why though..

Vicario 16m
Maddison 40m
Van der ven 30m

with Winks going out 10m

so 76m net

then Tasoba at what? 40m?

116m net

with around 10 players still to sell. It's extremely doable.

edit
ok forgetting the Kulusevski and Porro deals which makes it 181m net.

The pace aspect is exciting. Feels like we’ve lacked some elite level pace at the back for a while. Obviously pace isn’t everything, but it’s nice to have someone who can afford to make mistakes but still deal with situations.

What about Tapsoba, it’s a bit overly simplistic but who would you have down as the better centre back at the moment/ who has the higher ceiling?
Ehm, I dunno, maybe it speaks well of whoever is targeting these players but they both look pretty good and both have a chance to do well in PL. I've always thought Tapsoba a little flaky in some
of his defending at times(low crosses especially) but vdv is miles away from where you'd want him to be at clearing the ball with his head. But both a good fit for a team that wants to win back the ball high up the field and play it around quickly. Basically giving you a non-answer to that one haha, I think you'd need to be watching 15-20 full games before you can give a somewhat authoritive call

So close to signing VDV and hearing about how incredible he is from the Celtic & Empoli fans who inexplicably have a nan who supports Wolfsburg. And they’re armed with .. you guessed it, charts !!!

(But seriously .. is he good? And I do mean people who have watched him & not just read a hipster article on twitter or watched a YouTube comp … who is the true Bundesliga aficionado on here?)
He's definitely a good player with plenty upside. Wolfsburg aren't Dortmund, but their scouting is still solid, they often spot promising young talent.

Whenever I watched him in the Bayernliga last season, he looked exciting. Bit like Vicario, he's the type that's always gonna entertain you...either by going one of them crazy runs forward that's becoming his trademark or by making a big, silly booboo 20 yards from his own goal. But he's just a boy with little experience so course he's excitable.

If Ange manages to keep him calm, composed & focused for 90+ mins, all without taking away that craziness he's got, we've got a potential beast on our hands.
