Maybe Villareal, Atletico or whoever will take him. At €20m maybe some of the italian sides would be interested.

20m is a different price-band for these clubs..... (Barca, RM & AM excepted....)

20m for EPL clubs is a feasilble gamble. 20m for a mid/upper cub in Italy/Spain/Germany is a fairly pricey signing; expected to make a significant mark.

Can you go back and add in sales to all this to show net spend. And can you also add what we won vs the teams who's signings you've criticised.

I'll have to dig when I have more time for the 10 year record, but as an appetizer here's the 5 year net spend. We've only been outspent by Woolwich (+€20.M, 1xFA Cup) and United (+€116M, 1xLeague Cup).

I know everyone wants to blame our lack of recent success on ENIC being tight gits that won't spend. But it just doesn't jive with reality guys. It just isn't the spending. It's the shit spending and shit management and shit lack of meaningful direction as a club. All of that is, also, ENIC/Levy's fault...stop being lazy and falling back on the net spend fallacy.

I've always thought Emerson as quite decent tbh. Just not top 5 or Champions league level of decent.
This is the thing. We can rage against and abuse the players we don't like all day long, but most of the time, they just aren't good enough to maintain the consistent level we expect.
That's not their fault. But the fact is, inferior players will make more mistakes than superior players.
That's why you'll rarely see me personally attack any player that wears our shirt.
Exactly. & they will abuse the new signings when they perform to the realistic level you would expect.

My preference would be to keep HOJ for one more year (i'll explain further below why) BUT I 100% understand the viewpoint from an opportunity and financial vantage point, him being 27, still 2 years left so we have negotiating leverage and the reported numerous clubs of calibre that having a real interest in him.

HOJ money circa £30M-£35M (min - max) is very fair and reasonable and that money in essence could help us massively in addressing half a decades massive glaring weakness flaw weve has aka the DEF CB area. HOJ money to allow us to effectively purchase our 2 chief CB priorities Tapsoba and VDV, money ostensibly being the salient factor to achieve this. - Personally im all for Hoj's fee to help address our CB gaping issue.

However, I feel we would need to address HOJ's departure with another player of Quality this window.
  • Bentancur is still recovering from cruciate knee ligament injury, not the easiest to get back to your best again, so many players never fully get back to their best after it, 🤞he does of course however it could be end of SEPT to NOV we see him fully back
  • BISSOUMA and SARR will be off to AFCON leaving us to the bare bare minimum in a crucial month of JAN, also extra risk of one of them being injured (just pointing out all eventualities )
  • Skipp i love being a spurs boy thru & thru but is not at the required standard, still too many silly mistakes and naivety to be able to rely on
This leave all leaves us bare to the bone in terms of strong tackling defensive capable players, Maddison is full on attacking, Nbombelly well ermm hmmm he aint running or capable of or providing that defensive cover with the energy, zeal, stamina and tenacity required (many might argue but i just dont see it personally). That leaves GLC which we all know is actively being moved on again not his forte anyway.

So a HOJ replacement not essential before we leave on tour for pre-season but by the end of the summer window would be a necessity, which would likely be eased by selling a couple atleast of the vast number of dead weight we so badly need to move on from the club.
We have many weaker players that I’d rather shift first.

It’s just hard to fathom the logic of this method of doing business.

Tapsoba is clearly our first choice target. He’s the best centre back on our list, he’s available and we are more than able to afford him. Just go and get him.
Instead we are faffing about unsettling players, in turn probably pissing off the selling club and player.

It’s just not how a serious club would go about their business.
Not everything "journalists" and "ITK's" spit out are true you know 😉

If all of us fans could have the mindset that 95%(which is probably low) of what they are spitting out are just made up BS to get clicks, we would probably be in a healthier mental state!

Can’t really understand how this is even a debate any fan is willing to have.

If the club goes into the season with a CB lineup of:

Romero
Vvd
Lenglet
Dier

They have neglected it big time. Lenglet and Dier played most weeks and we conceded 60+ goals.
We're not going to buy 3-4 CBs in a single window. It was never going to happen. I expect 2 new and Lenglet, and it wouldn't surprise me if Dier is here as a 5th. He's a survivor who has won over 6 successive Spurs managers, whether any of us can understand why or not.

It’s good to hear some real talk but his 1 league goal is a major reason why we finished 8th. He needs to be setting himself a target of 15 league goals next season. We need goals from him to have any chance of a good season.
We are just a team who are all talk & no action. Big ourselves up & then fail. Then More talk & a whip around for the chairman.

How do spurs have 75 in for 23/24 and arse have 0? Is it only counting the winter or how is it not counting rice, Havertz, and whoever else they bought?

They just dropped 200m in one window.

I get where you are coming from with price doesn’t determine quality of player or success of transfer. At least not always.

But ask yourself this:

If they finish above us (AGAIN) can we have any complaints when their spending has been that much more ambitious this summer?

Great point. The forum hypocrite strikes once more.

As it happens, I did think Rodgers was the most likely. I think he was actually more popular than Ange in the poll until the outcome became apparent :roflmao:

Who was the guy that kept saying it though?
I forget.

We thought it was actually quite funny and brought some light hearted relief at the time though
If we got Rodger’s they would have said fantastic appointment from levy anyway. Like they said Jose was a toxic 🦖 until levy appointed him. Automatically a serial winner. & yes, back to a toxic 🦖 once levy fired him.

Exactly. & they will abuse the new signings when they perform to the realistic level you would expect.

Absolute rubbish....The worst player abuse on here is typified by the likes ArcspacE ArcspacE , Carl Johnson Carl Johnson Zomb ...... Vociferous anti-ENIC types.
