Several people are definitely arguing that’s why you can’t sign both.

Old Tweet, but interesting take on our squad needs.
How are we doing?

Personally think biggest need is that CB2 profile. Dier, Romero, Lenglet all lacking aerially and in recovery pace. Whereas Romero (and Lenglet) does at least have buildup qualities.
I think of someone like Chris Smalling as a good fit for that CB2 profile. So, are Tapsoba/VDV/Toisin right for what we need? I'm not sure. I just hope Ange and our recruitment team have a really clear idea of what they want.
How do we know what VdV wants? This has been explained to you about 20 times by different people in the last week or so.
Davinson and VdV are two different people, who may well have different opinions, priorities, beliefs etc. You can't just keep treating players like factory-made products, they are all different.
- If VdV wants to sign with a view to forcing his way ahead of Romero and Tapsoba in the pecking order, than that's great and I haven't seen anyone here who says it would be a bad idea.
- If VdV doesn't want that, then he won't sign if he knows Tapsoba is also going to sign, meaning we would have to look elsewhere for one or the other (Tosin being the much-touted alternative recently).
What makes you think it’s Levy’s priority rather than Ange’s? Was the GK Levy’s top priority or do you think the recruitment / football management side have some say in this.We may get 2 CBs in but that’s never been the priority for Levy in comparison to Maddison
We don't, that is precisely the point being made.
I’m fully speculating. What makes you think it’s Levy’s priority rather than Ange’s? Was the GK Levy’s top priority or do you think the recruitment / footballing side have some say in this.
Maybe, it’s simply about which deal is easier given the players, the agents and the selling club.
Maybe it’s about which deals have other external pressures such as a rival breathing down our neck.
You’re basically speculating.
Exactly. We don't, that is precisely the point being made.
Putting up "potential" scenario's is just opening up possibilities for debate.

We don't - that's exactly the point that I and others have made to you many, many times. Geez, I've even said in the post you are responding to 'if Vdv thinks x' and 'if Vdv thinks y' - indicating that we don't know what VdV wants, and obviously what he wants will impact whether or not he would want to sign.
As you are of course entitled to do, give your opinion - but it is only that, an opinion. You think VdV will want to sign if Tapsoba signs too, others (many others it seems) are open to the possibility that VdV might not want to come on that basis. It's just a possibility, no one has said it is definitely the case, just that it might be a contributing factor to us not signing both.Exactly.
I’m arguing against against the potential that VDV won’t come if we also sign Tapsoba.

I have absolutely no doubt that we wil get in at least 2 CBs before the new season.I’m fully speculating.
My speculation is that Maddison was a priority for Levy because he’s wanted him for a while.
Ange sounds like he’s keen as well.
Maddison is a good signing and they all made sure it happened
Because things have happened before doesn't mean we mustn't try to improve. Some do; some don't.....
Depends on the individuals and their motivations..... And as already pointed out; maybe you end up with the guy that's just happy to ride the bench?
CB doesn't work that way.....
We have potentially 38 + 2 games this season...... If - as one would hope - a #1 partnership is quickly forged, there will be virtually zero rotation.
See above...... On deeper inspection is that a mentality that we want to foster?
People complain we have too many such players already.
As I said in my prev. post; we're all united in what we want; but it's folly to close our eyes to external factors just cos they don't suit what we want to see happen.
Pre season has started and everyone is back on the 12th apart from Skipp and still no new centre backs. Ideally we want them in to go on the tour and be integrated and know exactly what the manager wants from them. There is absolutely no chance we have two in place by the time they fly out next week.I have absolutely no doubt that we wil get in at least 2 CBs before the new season.
I will be hugely disappointed (and a little surprised) if one of those isn’t one of our two top targets and in before pre-season.
I will also be hugely disappointed (and surprised) if the second (and only other) permanent signing is Lenglet.
Given our finish last year and our slide in general, I don’t think even Danny is dumb enough to put a 2 billion pound asset in the hands of Lenglet, Davinson and Dier.
As it is, I lean towards ENIC out — despite what the wankers here think — failure to address the defense will put me staunchly in that camp.
2 years after our Poch apex of 2017 we had regressed in league points and position but managed to freakishly reach a CL final. And Sis and Winks both played in that game. So they were the replacements when at most they should've been squad players (although Sis was sub par even as a squad option).
Absolute lies.
Paul O'Keefe has said that we are only looking to sign one of Tapsoba and VdV, but we are still looking to sign more than one CB.We're not party to agent conversations.... You/I have no idea whether there are conditions to them being open to a move to THFC.
What "indications" do you have that it is budgetary?
It's reasonable to assume that another 70/80m is within budget (esp. with sales forthcoming); though I don't know how much Tapsoba is alleged to cost.
Looks like it’s a Wolfsburg ‘content creator’.
