Maybe 50-60m

Anything up to 70m is very normal for top CB targets.

Clubs were paying that before we had the highest rise in inflation in our lifetimes.

If we are saying transfer fee increases are loosely correlated with increased in broadcast rights and ticket prices, 60-70m is absolutely going rate for a top CB target.

50-60 mill??? Not a chance. They just sold one of their best attackers for about 43 mill pounds. Plus apparently Tapsoba isn't even the finished article, he is not perfect and has some things to improve on.

40-45 mill pounds absolute max, no matter what Rolfes says if someone comes along with that kind of offer and the player says he wants to go then Bayer will sell. The problem for us is will Levy go that high, at the moment obviously no but once the Kane money comes in things may change.

irrelavant debate.

They didn't get a top target LCB.

For whatever reason.

A "reason" is the magical little component that aught to determine whether it's reasonable to get angry/indignant/etc. about something or not.

i.e.
Skriniar - Fair criticism.
Bastoni - Unfair criticism.

IF that was true, why were they even chasing Bastoni? Surely you speak to the agent and he says yes or no from the players perspective.

Wait; your attitude was previously "we just have to bid harder".......... How is a club meant to do that if they just walk away at the first obstacle.

Is it not fair to say that having met what inter deemed fair value they might be best placed to convince Bastoni to leave against his deeper desire to stay...... Much like AC/Tonalli this season..... They convinced him they needed the money so he left.

We needed a striker last window, we didn't bother chasing Mbappe. Why not?

Cos Conte didn't want him.... Or Eriksen...... Basically no CAMs.

Should we need Kane's money to be able to afford our top target for CB?

Maybe that kind of budgeting is the reason we have reached a point of Kane wanting to leave?

Diaby only had one year left on his contract though.

Tapsoba has 3 years remaining and they have no real reason to sell. They're hardly poor.

1. In isolation, yes. This CB search isn't in isolation, it's a string of reasons why it hasn't happened.

2. That is still my attitude, I just avoided that debate because it goes down the same alley every time.

3. It is fair to say that. That was my entire point.

Conte wanted Bastoni, I do wonder how things might have worked out of we had managed to get him. He also wanted Gvardiol. Maybe if we had bid 80-90m last summer we'd have got him because City were focused on Haaland. We can afford 80-90m on a Cb if we want to.We just don't want to do that.

Maybe we don't trust our scouting, maybe we lack conviction to signing the best players we possibly can.
