It was fantastic. And he DID stop doing his job. But he may not have stopped doing it if he felt like he was being backed.

Perhaps. And you know, he may have been backed further if he had seemed more committed to the job.

He had the court case that Jan and knowing Arry he would have been talking to anyone and everyone about the England job for months.

Yup. For any transfer, three parties have to be agreeable to the idea: Buying club (a gimme), selling club and player. Let’s ignore the added complexity of agents.

For Bastoni:
Buying club — Yes
Selling club — Yes
Player — No.

Now let’s apply what we’ve learned to this year’s targets:

Tapsoba
Buying club — Yes
Selling club — No
Player — Unknown but probably yes. .

Tosin
Buying club — Yes
Selling club — Yes
Player — No ( according to latest reports)

VdV
Buying club — Yes
Selling club — Indications are Yes but reluctantly.
Player — Indications are Yes.

Lenglet
Buying club — Yes but reluctantly
Selling club — Yes
Player — Yes.

I don’t think it’s going to take a genius to figure out the more likely recruits. Of course there are other CBs in the mix like Nelsson and Ibanez but links are tenuous and we don’t really have any additional information.
To be fair, I can't really blame Bastoni for not wanting to join us last summer. Why should he have signed a 3-5 year contract with us when the manager who wanted him wasn't committed to the club?

Woolwich current CB's cost: 182m
Our current CBs cost: 104m
Liverpool current CBs cost: 125m
Matip also arrived in 2016 for FT, sign on bonus of about 10m, so their true cost is more like 135m

The others we will never get close to for spending.

I maintain that the biggest reason for our success under Pochettino in the late 10s was due to catastrophic widespread incompetence at each of the richer, historically more dominant clubs - namely United, Chelsea, Liverpool, Citeh and Scum. They had such a massive financial advantage over the field including us, that only squandering their money on shite players and horrific mismanagement would keep them from success.

Don't get me wrong. They've cocked it up to an enormous degree. But the tides changed for City and Pool and now for Woolwich and United seemingly, and it's only a matter of time before the Chavs and Newcastle use their financial might the right way as well.

The think about tides is they come and go.

Liverpools tide changed again last season as did Chelsea's, which probably flattered United's season as they were just as reliant on Rashford as we were Kane, and let's be honest, Anthony was, last season at least, a bit of a flop.

United, Woolwich struggled for years following the departure of their talismanic managers and it remains to be seen if they can maintain their position in a season where us, Liverpool and Chelsea end our incompetence.

Can't see how we wouldn't take that. Take the money, go hard after some quality CB's, and pray that Ange can make miracles to make up the difference in goals with what we've got in his system.
I still think we should look at the Rice transfer.
He had a year left on his contract, he's a defensive midfielder, he went for £105m!

Yes i know he's much younger than Harry, but Harry is in his prime, and one of the best strikers in the world.
I would go for £120m for Harry

Clearly players need to be sold before defenders come in.
we're shit at buying and shit at selling players.

Fantastic tactic to wait until deadwood is flogged before signing centre backs. I mean who cares if the player we are trying to sign becomes increasingly frustrated or simply gets a better offer. Who cares that the selling club might become frustrated and also get a better offer.

Genius idea to approach the players you are interested in, negotiate a contract to the point that they accept terms then end up not making a bid.

Clearly players need to be sold before defenders come in.

Squad is way too big and all the small contracts are eating space for a few genuinely decent players to come in.

If Ange was the guy that acted as DOF to choose Vicario and Solomon, he will probably do a decent job picking out what he needs.

What he can't do that a DOF needs to do is find clubs to take our unwanted and force DL to make the money work for those clubs.

BEN: (regarding Djed Spence)
I have heard from a few different people he don’t have a good attitude I know steve cooper got a good 5 months from him but I don’t see him being in ange plans at all.

“Club Signing”

I wonder if we hadn’t made that signing if we would find it easier to afford Tapsoba.

Levy knows fack all about football and needs to fack off from that part of the club. I’d rather Chirpy was in charge of the footballing operations.

Commercials, Levy is world class, Football, Levy is a substitute on a pub sides B team

Foyth is likely excluded because he isn't at Spurs anymore

Then again, I wouldn't have a clue what players are still at the other clubs tbh

Pretty sure it was Paratici

Think they just missed him off but adding a 19yr old bought for £8m is hardly a game changer to the point the list makes. Most striking thing is all the clubs listed have bought rubbish but the others, apart from maybe Man U have moved them on and kept working until they get some good ones. We still have Sanchez after 6 years and Rodon after 3.
