Theory: we need to sell to buy, and we'll be able to buy both Tapsoba and VDV once we sell Kane.
Here's some (circumstantial) evidence in support of this:
This is our net spend over the last 5 seasons:
23/24: £-107.12m
22/23: £-118.93m (8th)
21/22: £-52.38m (4th)
20/21: £-83.08m (7th)
19/20: £-73.5m (6th)
Despite this being the only season with no European football, this is our second highest spending window so far. "But Porro doesn't count! We wanted to pay his fee last window and only agreed to pay it this window due to Sporting's demands!" fair enough, subtract the £34m we paid for Porro and add it to the last window instead, that'd still put this window at around the average of 19/20-21/22, despite no European football. And no, I'm not going to substract the Kulu fee as well, that was negotiated and paid this window.
Besides that, we are planning to sell around £130-140m worth of players (let's say £90m for Kane, £40-50m for the rest of the gang), does anyone think we're going to spend more than £130m this window? On who? Tapsoba + VDV is around £80m, let's say another £20m for Orban. Do you really think we have an extra £50m to throw around beyond that to buy Tapsoba now?
