I don't agree with you on either. Veiga doesn't pass a lot, but when he does he often makes important passes, being high on key passes, through balls, and expected assists. He's overpreforming on goals, but his expected goals are already very high for a CM, particularly one in such a weak side. I really doubt we'll get him now that we're keeping Lo Celso, I haven't heard any links for a while, I'd really like him personally.

VDV is passive, but that's not necessarily a bad combination with Romero. He has bad aerial ability but that can be taught, particularly to an explosive 6'4 defender.
Veiga doesn’t really have a lot of versatility though does he. He’s an advanced midfielder either behind the striker or the furthest forward in a 3. He needs a lot of defensive support to cover for his biggest strength, forward running into the box. That limits the players he can play with both in front and behind him.

I would have a lot more confidence if he showcased truly elite level ball-striking or dribbling but aside from a couple nice shots most of his finishes are either tap-in or kind of scuffed. I don’t know, I feel like you need to be an amazing ball-striker or dribbler to make this profile work consistently. He’s not really a box to box defensive presence either.

He’s good but he fits a very specific role without much upside to do more.
The videos show that he didn't in those videos.

That's all they show.

VDV has 1 senior season of top level football. It's very normal that he would be expected to improve these things.

Same with aerial stuff.

He's 6ft 4 and athletic. Just needs time to improve.
As for VdV. Look, I see the vision. Nathan Ake is the clear profile comparison and it’s a decent one physically. But Micky is a looooot more clumsy than you’d think. He’s fast but he lacks the tackling gene. It doesn’t really come naturally to him. And I’m not so sure you can teach someone aerial abilities when their baseline level is this low.
The only issue with VDV is expecting him to be ready now and be our only CB signing of the summer
If we’re spending £30m or so on him as alluded to by all reports… I don’t care if he plays as a starter he’s clearly a huge investment. He has way too many red flags as a defender for me to feel confident in improving our defense.

And looked like a 6 playing in the wrong position

I don't see Skipp as #8 at all....... To me he should be totally focussed on the Scott Parker template.

.......If anything were to unfold early season before Bentancur returns; this seems far more fitting to me:

Skipp
Biss / Maddy
More of the necessary grit that the EPL demands there than this:

Biss
GLC / J-Madz.

(He might have looked nice on the ball in pre-season; but I've yet to be convinced that GLC is not a wet-wipe.)

I like your Dele comp for Veiga.
He’s a good press player as well. Happy to put a boot in. Big kid that will fill out.
I rate him but it’s way too early to say what kind of player he’s going to be yet. I think he can pass better than he has.
Dembele was a striker when we signed him…

I’d probably prefer Scott though as a yid and already adapted to the physical side .

VDV I’ve never watched a game. But if they are signing him as the main CB coming in, it’s a massive gamble imo. Signing him as a project, then cool.

2 transfers for talented young players is enough to tip the balance for you to say we do smart business.

Lukeba and Scott were in the tweets and both can contribute this season,

How long did we wait until Sarr and Udogie were ready to compete for places?

(Eh? It's Udogies first season.... Why are you implying that we've been waiting too long for him to contribute already?)

Besides; it's a fair assumption that Udogie will be in the first XI v Brentford.

Based solely on what you were literally just saying to me about Ange subbing one of his #8s for Scott on the 60min mark; I'd expect Sarr to get similarly subbed on too.

Biss is the starting 6 by the looks of what Ange has done so far.

Biss
Sarr Maddison

Is nice

Against teams that we know will give us possession

Biss
Maddison GLC

Against City and Woolwich maybe

Skipp
Maddison Biss
(But Ange comes off like he won’t back down like this)

I like Udogie and staying on loan was the right call.

But we had to wait.

Agree that Sarr also gets subbed in but I think he starts a fair amount too

Opinions, fella. Not facts.

Anyway I wouldn’t worry about it coz we won’t be signing VDV. Now THATS a fact.

:nunothumb:

Lenglet on a free on deadline day.
Why do you rate Veiga and Van de Ven exactly?

Surely you must have some knowledge on these two players that makes you like them.

What is the reasoning behind you disagreeing with me and saying what I’m writing is utter nonsense? How can you know that?

The VDV one is hillarous. He's basically like buying Dorrington from our Academy and expecting him to start EPL games. There's people saying get him over Tapsoba! They know we need a centerback fir next season right? Tapsoba will have to improve VDV would have go quantum.

You made it sound like he was flailing around failing to get into our team......

There you go then (and did he not show he could "compete" away at AC Milan?).... So I really don't understand your prior comment in the case of either player.

It's simply not been as you implied.

Not really sure you understood what that conversation was about and we are now discussing 1 very small part on the conversation.

I like Udogie and Sarr.
