I think the problem is not that we are getting players that cost a few million.

That in itself is not a problem..... Brighton aren't paying big money for the players that they're being lauded for scouting.

It just seems that these sorts of purchases are more opportunistic buys rather than scouts going out and making informed choices resulting in targeted purchases for a specific reason that x, y and have the potential to be great for us.

Nonsense.

You're saying you don't think Sarr, Udogie, Vicario & Solomon (or VDV, Veliz & Phillips) weren't scouted?

Son has played CF for us plenty...... Big games and big goals too.

Besides; it's not like it's being suggested he'd be our ONLY CF option.

Regardless, replacing Kane by not replacing him but instead relying on two out of form players, one of which a LW by trade who has filled in at striker sometimes, would be stupid. It would be a colossal risk to add to an already tough first season for the manager.

That's not light gray, I can't imagine any serious business would carry on consulting someone who is currently serving a ban for false accounting, market manipulation and filing misleading financial statements.

Keep the goalposts still FFS..... You brought up Russia...... The differing degree (grey) lies in the false equivalence that YOU drew to begin with!

Granted it is only two halves of pre-season friendlies, but we looked much better attacking without Kane in the lineup. Our out-of-form players may very quickly become in-form players in this system.

Which is different than us intending to loan him out, which I think was your point. It's one thing to loan him because that's what we would have done anyway, and a different thing to loan him until he gets a work permit.
Not sure where intent matters.

I never made any point about intent.

If he's not coming to play now and Kane is going, I don't really understand the logic of the transfer from a squad-building perspective, even if the kid looks a talent.

Shit strikers don't get touted as the next starting #9 for Argentina.

I certainly wasn't advocating selling Kane and buying no further attacking players.

A trend.

Find me an exact clip from one of those 11,000+ minutes he's played that show the same error. Until then, it's not a trend. It's a defensive error.
The Musiala one is basically the exact same issue that he shows in the U21 match
So we're at the point of highlighting all the negatives from random goals?

I could give you a list of goals Tapsoba should be doing better at too or the mistakes he's made leading to goals, if you'd really like?

I will assume you probably wouldn't want that.
Tapsoba has also made some errors that alarm me too. But he’s a lot less clumsy in tight spaces and he is better on the ball, better tackler, better in the air, his qualities make up for it. VdV is really good at chasing players and that’s about it for now.
I'll keep the tissues free for when we're battling relegation with a £80m centre back pairing.
I was fine with spending nearly €50m on Romero because he had won Serie A defender of the season, had Argentinian NT pedigree, was a truly gifted ball carrier, etc.

Battling relegation lol. Even with Dier and Davies we still got 8th. But if you have ambition you want to be challenging for CL places, otherwise just bin everyone off.

Comparing Van de Ven to Romero in 2021 is hardly a comparison, and that my point, if we’re paying £40m we better be damn sure this guy is the one, like we were for Romero.

Words can’t express how little I care about pre season. It means nothing to me. What works or doesn’t work there may as well be a different sport.

Summarises some of my thoughts. I despise when people draw any conclusions from pre season matches.
