It's not even a farm. Chelsea is an asset stripping tool for the Saudi's to get talent from Europe to their league.

They see football as a way to diversify out of Oil long term and currently have to overpay in a big way to attract talent.

Now they can invest in clearlake, that money is spent on chavs players, those players then end up in Saudi.
That theory is all well and good, until those plays decide they'd rather not go there. They hold the power. Mbappe said no. Other have said no.

I mean, he's been our captain for what, 10 years?
Kane has only ever been backup.
He hasn't "left" yet. But we decide to make a massive song and dance over the new captain the DAY Kane leaves.
I find it quite insulting to Lloris' legacy at Spurs. He wasn't in the squad yesterday, so could have picked anyone to be captain without actually anointing them captain for the season.
Once Lloris goes, then you make the big hoo ha over the new official club captain.

The only good thing about doing it now is it appears to have fucked Eric Dier off sufficiently that he might leave.
We did it last week because it was the day before the season started.

There’s nothing wrong with how it was done; I trust ange logic much more than some mope on the internet.

Thing with Olise.... People want goals from the wide-men...... He's only scored 2 per season in the EPL since arriving.
I dont think we need goals from both sides tbh, if Son, Richy and Maddison can contribute along with a few from the 8s then we are fine across the pitch, we can afford to have a right sided player beating his man and putting dangerous crosses and passes into the box. Olise was double figures for assists last season, exactly the sort of wide man we need, he makes things happen. Unfortunately looks like Chavs and City are fighting over him. Not that I can understand why the Chavs need yet another wide player...

....And none of the side-show bullshit of endless fake rumours and ITK twats; leaving fans absessed with contracts, clauses, trf fees, wages and outspending the oppo etc......... Just an announcement in the morning paper when a deal was as good as done.

Yep it’s the shittest part of modern day football. I swear there are a set of fans more interested in all that and transfers than what goes on for 90 minutes on the grass on match day.

He can do a job in multiple roles.

Which 3 MF roles (in this system!) can he play?

Across midfield and forward line at a pinch.

Just like Ben Davies can 'do a job at CB'. Does anyone really want to rely on him there long-term, no?

Same as Sanchez. These are the type of squad players we have.

To improve as a team you need genuine competition for places.

I asked you at the very beginning.... Irrespective of who we have in our ranks right now; what is your actual definition of "squad player"?.... You never said.

See Woolwich signing Timber whilst having Saliba and Gabriel, as an example.

(The discussion here isn't whether you can name a half decent utility player that plays for another club)

As I already asked you....

Why haven't they got a Saka back-up?
Why haven't Liverpool had a back-up for TAA? .....Or anyone to back up the hypothetical presence of Lavia?
Why haven't Man U had a proper #1 AND #1 striker for a number of years?
etc. etc. etc.

Your claim that all our rivals have to players of equal quality in every position is a myth.

We are selling PEH. Rather than replace with another clogger

Funnily enough I don't think the criteria on the shopping list reads "clogger".

we should add a creative mid in the Madders/Eze role.

....Another un-answered question I'll repeat: Which high quality player is gonna want to sit on their arse waiting for Maddison to get injured?

To me Gio is somewhere between a PEH and a Maddison.

He's basically a #8 that is more attacking orientated than defensively (so defensively lacking that you'd never dream of playing him as a DM or in a 2-man MF.

In a team that's set up as we are; that's the Maddison role!

I am comfortable with Gio as the Skipp/Bentancur rotation

I'm not......He doesn't fit those positions. In fact I don't even know what "rotation" is meant to mean in this context.

Without Europe; there will be virtually zero rotation...... That's not a convenient 'card' to play (as you previously insinuated); that's a simple fact.

Keep him or not; that's a seperate debate but his potential role in this squad is a back-up to Maddison.

but for not as our main creative outlet. He has never demonstratrd this ability for us (or in his career outside of 1 season with Betis) so I dont get the confidence.

What "confidence"? If you think this is some resounding pro-GLC stance you're completely missing the point.

Didn't he announce at the start of June that he wanted to leave and was going to find a new club . Would be bizzare for him to remain as captain when everyone knows he wants to terminate his contract.

I know this is a Tottenham transfer thread, but fucking hell. Caicedo, Lavia, and likely Olise is criminal.

I really like Gallagher, but I don't want to give Chelsea one single £ that might help them avoid FFP.

Oh shhhhh............. You're just manufacturing shit to be pissed about.

It's not disrespectful to anyone.

Hugo hasn't played any part in pre-season........ What did you expect us to do? .......Have no captain until he sorts his future out????

The captaincy was announced on the eve of the new season.... The connection to Kane is tenuous and largely coincidental other than the fact that IF he'd have stayed he'd have inevitably been given the armband..... As he didn't stay, someone else was given it prior to our first game of the season.
