I was making my own quote actually 😂
What am I a fucking scout. We pay a network of people a small fortune to do that.
As Ange has said that we knew Kane was going, why have we not got anyone lined up that is better than an outside punt?

Nah, not buying that cop out in this context.....

You don't need to be a scout...... One would expect the world's best strikers to be high profile players that any Tom, Dick or Harry can name; so shoot....... Name who we should buy.

I’m not necessarily saying we should have gone Rice, it was a standard point of us always going for the cheaper option 😆
The more chronic problem in our recent transfer business for me is that we consistently end windows a player or two short of the squad needed for the manager to really implement his ideas and make a real effort at the full slate of fixtures.

In years past we'd go for a player, shy away over the money involved, and choose a lesser option.

I don't think we've even bothered to pursue the Rice's and Caicedo's and Bellingham's of the world, but the players we've really targeted lately we've tended to get, or at least not shy away from the quoted price of (i.e. Luis Diaz)

Still fundamentally a problem of being unwilling to invest to the degree necessary to achieve major honors, but a slightly different problem.

OK; but you WERE pitching the idea of grossly overpaying for players; so you'd rather we'd paid 80m for Maddison than 40m? ....How does that help?

Mate you are really not getting this are you?
You OBVIOUSLY get the players for as cheap as you can get them but sometimes to get the player you really need you might have to pay a little over the odds ,VVD and Alison spring to mind

OK.... What striker.......? We're back at square one.........

....................BUT; 50m over the value is not a "little over the odds".

Yeah so that's absolute nonsense, to claim them as being in profit you have to accept that their outgoings are spread over 8 and 5 years, but not apply the same logic to their incoming fees, they're being assumed as a total received.

Now there might be some idiotic loophole that allows this as far as FFP goes, but you have to be incredibly generous to call it making a profit, they're leveraged to fuck on these signings and one or two windows down the line it's going to end up severely restricting them.

Next window they're £135m down before they've even started.

I know all clubs are in the same boat, but no other clubs are taking it to such a wild extent.
yea of course, but as far as FFP goes they are in credit this year. of course next year is a different story. hes just explaining how they are getting away with it.

its going to be interesting to see how these 8 year deals play out. are the players on a set rate for the 8 years or are they on a yearly % increase? hopefully it fucking ruins them, theyve tried to be clever and hopefully it seriously backfires. if saudi start buying their shitters next year you know they are cheating cunts.
