As I say, for me your focus is too short-term. I prefer to take a wider and longer look at the medium term and beyond - I'm not going to knee-jerk over a single season when we've been better than them for so many recent seasons. It may well just be a blip. Ups and downs have always happened in football, its part and parcel of the game.
They have been continuously improving under the same manager for the past 3 seasons, and are continuing to back the manager in every transfer window. There’s literally nothing but blind optimism to suggest last season was just a blip. We were miles in front of them in our prime under Poch and in their final wenger year, that has clearly changed.

If we back our current manager the way they have backed arteta we can get to where they are now, but you’re not living in reality if you think last season was just a one off for them and they’re not gonna be near the top again this campaign.

That absolutely was the conversation. It was a discussion around what constitutes success. scarletjim scarletjim made his point about success being measured over the medium to long term relative to resources and you never really considered that point of view and then tried to shift discussion to be about net spend and not actual football performance.

You’ll get far more from conversations in future if you seriously consider other peoples point of view instead of sticking to your own agenda.

It started as a discussion about whether it was realistic for Spurs to have winning trophies as primary objective.

The fact that you hadn't even read the perspective of either side of the debate but chimed in and accused people of not listening to other's points of view, is probably the best representation of your posting style that I could hope to find.

But there isn't a valid reason why they are outspendng us this transfer window We still need another CB and a CF, Levy is dithering over biding £30M on Orban.

We might be relying on Richarlison as our CF this season, does that make you feel comfident? It's obvious we need another CB, ie Romero was taken off because of a head injury in the first game of the season.
This goes right back to the origin of the conversation, which was about getting value for money. If Woolwich think Rice is worth £105m, that's up to them - i don't, and I suspect Levy doesn't either. With Orban, I expect it's a similar thought process - Levy is presumably debating over whether or not Orban is worth £30m, or whether that money would be better put to another transfer (in this window or a later one). (And he wouldn't be alone in that - the jury on here is very much out as to whether or not Orban is the answer, or is worth that fee). But I'm not going to go over all the same ground again - it's covered in the original conversation that started between me and Zomb, read it if you wish. :)

Winning clubs sign their main targets first and then figure out later how to get rid of their duds

Loser clubs try to get rid of their duds first before signing their main targets cheap alternatives

It was about realistic objectives.

Well, I actually believe we finally have the 'right' manager and have been making some solid signings recently, so I expect in a few years time we will look back at last season and maybe this one as blips in a period where overall we finished above them far more often than not. But I guess only time will tell which of us is right. :)

Fine if he's not worth £30M, therefore we either get a different CF than Orban very soon, or we're left relying on Richarlison who managed one goal in the league last season, as our main striker.

See, I agree with you here and I'd have Ange over Arteta every day of the week. I'm a Spurs fan.

But the point stands about the mentality of their owners vs ours.

You’ve just described the same thing as me. You think trophies constitute the barometer of success, others do not.

Anyway - you’re right. Let’s leave it there.

Tottenham Hotspur FC have the best stadium in Europe, the best training facilities, a history of winning before our current owners, one of the highest revenues in world football, one of the best profit margins in world sport, we used to have the best striker in the world….

“The level below” is an excuse. If the fans accept that winning isn’t a priority target, then that’s a conscious choice to accept the owners goals because winning has been a realistic goal for this club for some time.

Our worst rivals up the road have clearly set winning trophies as their goal from to to bottom of the club. What’s Levy’s excuse?
Levy hasn't got an excuse . Remember winning is hard
