Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't squad places only affected if these surplus players are registered with the squad? So if they're told they won't be registered, what we effectively have is an excess of players that we will be paying a wage, but they won't impact the actual squad for the season?

Essentially, we'll have players on "gardening leave" that won't get a game if they hang around?

I don't know the mechanics of this, so can anyone educate me here?

If I were a player aged over 21 not registered in the squad, I might complain that the consequences of that is that I cannot play/work and see if I could suggest 'constructive dismissal' (because not playing runs my career and chances of future emp;loyment as a player) which would mean club paying out the remainder of the contract - in Ndombele's case £20m.

I'm not sure of that can be made to stick legally, but I'm sure the club would prefer to loan players out as far as possible to avoid that position - and indeed its probably not an attractive sign to players we are trying to entice to join to see that 'falling out of favour' can result in not playing for a season, and that may mean missing out on players who we want to join us .

Rebuild is well underway - just look at the 20 players brought in during 2021/22, 2022/23 and this summer :

GK : Vicario, Forster
CB : Romero, Ven de Ven (Phillips)
FB : Royal, Porro, Spence, Udogie
CM : Bentancur, Sarr, Bissouma, Maddison (and Skipp after his Norwich loan)
FWD : Kukusevski, Richarlison, Perisic, Solomon, Veliz, Gil

and that's to refresh and upgrade on the squad in 21/22 and before - players such as Son, Davies, Hojbjerg

So next summer will be mostly about upgrading a limited number of positions rather than 'having to' bring in 6 players to get a decent squad.

Credit where it is due..... much as it will pain some to admit but that is pretty decent work right there.

Let's hope we keep it up over the next few windows.

If he’s anything like JD he’d be perfect for us.
Absolutely not.

we are crying out for a hold up man up top to give us an outlet and help us in control. Ball control is our biggest strength, we need to lean into it.

There's a reason De Zerbi persists with Welbeck for Brighton despite him being shit. Because he occupies CBs, has great aerial ability and hold up play, and aids in control.

I know i know his system had Kyogo and whoever else. But in the 2023 English PL, starting a 5'9" CF who doesn't challenge for headers and can't hold up the ball is a huge issue. It hurts us immeasurably because we don't have any outlets up top

Spence is on the transfer list, a rebuild is about players out as well, only one sale and one loan so far.
As far as buying goes I'd be ok with just a CB and then just waiting to see how Richy, Solomon, Veliz, Gil turn out this season. I hope we don't buy Gallagher.

We don't know what Ange wants. He seems happy with Richarlison atm which is bizarre so let's see where we are once the window closes.

How stupid do you have to be to not realize that we'd be paying exactly the same whether they sit on the bench or we buy out their contracts. And by not buying out their contracts until after the window closes we at least have a chance to get some money back.

I mean, it's not that complicated. For below average to high IQs, anyway.
With all due respect, you don’t understand financial accounting. You can amortise severance as capital restructuring expense over 5 years so paying them off is favourable for the balance sheet.

I wont make snide comments about people’s IQ, because that would make me a fucking cunt, it’s just clearly something you don’t understand and that’s ok
