Yes but...

Historically there has been a problem with players returning from AFCON to the PL & being physically & emotionally shattered, and never really getting back up to speed until the following season.

Bissouma & Sarr seem good, professional, characters. Not your Adebayors....

But AFCON during the PL season has always been disruptive.

Bissouma was best at Brighton deep dominating from the base but he isn’t a traditional DM, more a Carrick type playing that role. However I think Bissouma could play 6 or 8 easily as he is so rounded.

Personally I think Bissouma will play the deeper role simply because Maddison and Bentancur will need to play further ahead of him.

The Premier League will have a mid-season break after the festive period from January 14 to January 30, 2024.

So including Sarr and Veliz your squad can't exceed 22 players

A lot will depend on how far their teams advance, and you'd back Senegal to be a major threat to win the whole thing, far more than Mali, but who knows.

I am the first person to mount the ramparts against the windsock short-termism endemic to football analysis.

But someone has to play those 10/12 games. A squad has to be built for the long haul. Calls need to be made about who is fit and suitable for which roles moving forward.

I have very few parts of this team carved in stone for the long haul, but the very first one is Bissouma as the deepest lying midfielder.

It doesn't go from January 13 to February 11, they'll play for 9 days and then return to the final.

2 domestic cup matches we might miss :
FA Cup Round 4 - 27 January
League Cup 2nd Leg - 24 January

Just depends how deep into Afcon our lads go but it can be up to 7 matches (including 2 cup matches)
