Lots of players want to play football, they will often move with lower wages as they know their club doesn't want them and they won't play. This is especially true when an international tournament is coming up. They will take their loyalty bonus and signing on fee and take a hit on wages over the long run.

These things still tend to balance out.... Bigger signing bonuses, comparative length of contract, avoiding wage-potential depreciation through in-activity etc.

Didn’t know that Brighton signed so many players and sent them out on loan.

Looking at Sarr and Udogie under Ange, it’s pretty clear this is the model most likely to get us top class players.

Veliz is the next in line for that pathway. Phillips probably too.

Credit has to go to Paratici for having the vision to bring this model to the club

I give him credit for bringing those players in but it's not some new model brought to the club, we've always looked to find bargains, it's just that most have not worked out, than worked out.

Veliz is a 2 year project like Sarr and Udogie .

Let it go, he’s not a 1st team player this season. Probably not next year either
I never said he was.
I'm just musing on possibilities.

Everyone at the club knew Kane was off.
If we were seriously interested in getting another forward in we'd have them lined up ready to go.
The fact that all the rumours have died down and we haven't bid for anyone says a lot imo.
That and the fact that we don't appear to want to loan Scarlett out, and we've bought a highly rated youngster.

Just to be clear, we should sign another established forward, I just don't think we will.

Hope I'm wrong obviously.

Honestly, I don’t know the playing stats but Tanc has done more in his career, has better experience and on the eye test does everything better than Rice

I’m not arsed enough to argue it passionately but Rice’s defensive numbers are exponentially better. In fact; nobody has better defensive numbers.

I would say Rice is the 2nd best defensive midfielder in the world, after Rodri. Woolwich fans already think he’s nailed on to be captain.

I think we need to realize the club operates with a budget for 1st team transfers (that can have young players) and a buy to loan development pathway for younger talent (like Brighton operate).

Expecting Veliz or Scarlett to take a 1st spot this year is like expecting Phillips to be our 3rd CB.

Those players are on a different pathway.

I feel like they did have Orban lined up post Kane for the 1st team but now they are either undecided or stalling because they can’t shift any players out the door.

" Conte's departure has cooled #Tottenham's desire for Lenglet.", weird, people here told me Conte hated Lenglet and Levy forced Conte to take him. :ange-hmm:
Maybe the story is just BS. Maybe Lenglet was forced on Conte but Lenglet liked Conte. Doesn't mean Conte wanted him or it was a 2 way affection.
Lenglet strikes me as quite weak minded and wants to be somewhere he knows people.
The opposite to Kane really who just went to a club where he knows no one and doesn't speak a word of the lingo

Im not sure Rice is a pure DM, he’s more of a Hojberg profile imo.

Better than Hojberg but not 60-70m better imo.

Rodri is kind of alone in terms of a pure DM. Almost plays CB at times.

People keep harking back to Ferguson at Brighton.
Is it possible we have his Argentinian clone in Veliz? 6ft 2" good with both feet and his head and only 19.
I could be describing either one of them, couldn't I?
