Lack of urgency is what we do. Learning from past mistakes on the other hand...

We've known for ages that Hugo wants to go, it's ridiculous he's still here. The lad shoulda been released so he could pick his next club and get a big cheque, he's earned it.

Dier is a different animal. He doesn't want to go, still thinks he's our own Puyol, and I don't think the offers have been there...at least ones appealing enough to him/Spurs.

The rest of the deadwood, it's criminal they're still here. It's them highly paid people's jobs to find them clubs, put things in place so transfers happen.

I've been silent on the Kane situation, had actually drafted a long un but never posted it for peace's sake, but I'll just say this...the way it went down was a friggin joke, made a right mockery out of Spurs (again) thanks to the powers that be.

We've had a good start, yeah...but it's just two games. And the squad still has a few big holed that I'm afraid won't be filled and it'll show in a few weeks' time. Though Dan Dan expects Ange to work miracles a la Poch, which obviously would be a big win for him...spend 25% of what you really should but get top results.

Can't just rip up contracts if the other party doesn't agree to it, it needs to be mutual.

You could be right…

I just fail to see how if interested clubs didn’t have to deal with Tottenham and Daniel Levy that it wouldn’t increase the amount of offers being made to Hugo?

There were reports lately that we were still looking for a fee of some sort, which is sure to detract potential suitors.

The barrier is Hugo wanting to be no 1 GK which Lazio refuse to guarantee (and Lazio already have a decent GK) - nothing to do with money whether fees or wages,

And Hugo's status should have been sorted out by his agent (that's his job) long ago

They went out on loan at least and earlier in the window

LAST SUMMER:

Last couple of weeks of window:
Winks 30/8 - LOAN
Reg 30/8 - LOAN
Ndombele 14/8 - LOAN
GLC 15/8 - LOAN

Earlier:
Rodon 1/8 - LOAN
Clarke 9/7 - SOLD
Berg 8/7 - SOLD
CCV 1/7 - SOLD

SO FAR THIS SUMMER:
Kane - SOLD
Winks - SOLD
Rodon - LOAN

The last couple of weeks isn't off-limits.
The window doesn't close for Spurs earlier than for everyone else.

Wasn’t the window longer last summer as well?

Either way, only 2 left on 30/8. The rest of them would have been out by now

Genuine question...

Why are people so obsessed with how much we have spent? I understand that to compete with Man City we will need to win the spending but United try it every season and seemingly fail, Chelsea have spent more money than everyone combined and looked shite all last season.

Then you have a team like Brighton who don't seem to spend a penny but have built and incredible side that play the kind of football we all love to watch.

So honestly why does it matter how much we spend when the only thing that matters is how well the players we buy perform for us.

Romero, Bentancur, Bissouma, Sarr, Udogie all would like have cost us 2x what we paid for them this summer - We picked up one of the top 5 performing midfielders in the league for 40 mil when if Conte would have sanctioned the deal last year he likely would have also cost double.
I've been saying this for a while mate. It's not what we spend, it's about getting the right players.

Where I think the 'spend whatever it takes' crowd are right though, is that if the right player is identified, then we SHOULD be prepared to spend a lot.

I get the feeling, and it is just a speculative feeling, that Levy et al are waiting to see how the players we have bought perform, before fully trusting our recruitment further. It's understandable, considering the absolute drops we've ended up with over the last few years, so it may just be a case of our scouts and recruiters earning enough trust for him to sanction those bigger purchases. Ndombele is the prime example of huge outlay for fack all, so Levy might just be requiring more proof of greater success before he green lights further spend at that level.

Seen a lot of people that want Sanchez to stay now, and for Dier to leave. Assuming Tottenham sign another CB this window, this debate is between who gets to be FOURTH choice CB.

Both these players’ contracts expire next summer in 2024. Spurs has two confirmed offers from Galatasaray and Spartak for Sanchez, while Dier has none. Is the difference in quality between these two that big, to the point where the club should be rejecting £8-12m offers for Sanchez just to force Dier out of the door one season early?

There is no denying that Sanchez is probably the better of the two for this system, but in a season where minutes for FOURTH choice CB will be very scarce, is it worth it to reject guaranteed money for Sanchez when both will be out of contract next summer? The difference between Dier and Sanchez isn’t that much anyway, and for me Dier is better on the ball than him

It’s a no brainer for me, i’d much rather keep Dier for one more season as 4th choice and take the money for Sanchez. Apologies for the essay
Fair point.

If Sanchez only plays in a handful of games, it’s fair to say selling him for 10m is probably the better option.

However, if there’s a long term injury to Romero, vdv, or a 3rd choice CB, and Sanchez ends up playing 20 games instead of dier, it could make or break the season. He’s already played 75 minutes out of 180.

I’d probably prefer to keep Sanchez because I never want to see dier play again but your argument is a good one.

No doubt, same goes for any contract.

I remember in the flat we rented off my wife's (ex-)friend, she wanted us out a couple of years into a five-year contract. Her idiot lawyer called us to tell us to move out, I mentioned we had a contract.

"That doesn't matter" he replied.

So I schooled him in the etymology of the word, from the Latin contractum, "to bring together", two parties joined together in a formal agreement. If you want to break it you have to pay us off or at least offer something we can negotiate on.

Silence. After 30 seconds... "Are you threatening me?"

Phone call ends with me laughing out loud out loud out loud.

The moral of this story? Don't fuck with linguists.
