Definitively? I don't think either of us are in a position to say that.... (Nor are we about Spurs.... We could quite possibly end this window with 5 more outs and still not buy anymore and will be none the wiser.)
However:
- Man U are up to their neck with FFP and couldn't afford to play hard this season....... That's Man U, FFS; they always have money. Dead food players on big wages will undoubtedly not have helped that situ.
- Chavs have been gifted a hard reset of their accounts by the UK gov and now the Saudis so funnily enough they come up smelling of roses like the always fucking do. However, Bakayoko, Barkley & Drinkwater was a midfield all bought and released at the end of their deals and barely ever played..... No doubt other examples there too as their trf ops are a bombsite; even before the Todd.
- Arse missed out on Mudryk & Vlahovic over the last 18 months... The former was absolutely down to money.... Perhaps if they hadn't been paying Calumn Chambers 130kpw for the prev. 5 years only to release him for nothing (ditto Rob Holding on whatever he was earning, losing Lazazette for free, paying PEA off to leave on a free etc.) they might have been able to match the chav's wages and get Mudryk or blow a semi-skint Juve out of the water and get the striker they STILL need.
........Truth is; "only Spurs" is never ONLY Spurs.

All this requires a proper football structure and playing philosophy. This is where I think Levy has failed. If he had established that during the peak Poch years we would be cruising now. Hopefully this is what we're doing now, but it'll take a few years to see the fruits of it. And it should not only be on the player side, but also on the manager side. It will be very important when Ange leaves for the next manager to be a continuation (or a tweak) of his philosophy rather than someone completely different.
So what?
This means we should stop trying to bring in new players that can help improve our team/squad?
The above poster is correct, this season is a lot more open than previously thought and we have a chance to do a lot more than scrape into a EL spot.
Where's the ambition?
Lenglet would be significantly more useless in Ange's high line than Sanchez.

We actually got top 4 the season before last. Top 4 and a cup was the target (expectation?) last season too......

Romero was bought prior to Conte arriving. Would Udogie have gotten minutes under Conte, or would he have wanted a more established LWB? We'll never know. Bissouma was boght under Conte, but he hardly played him. And as far as Bastoni is concerned, would he have been able to play in a high line 4 man defense and look equally as good?
So I'm not so sure what we should be thanking Conte for.

The thought of Dier or Sanchez pulling on our shirt again fills me with dread. The more I think of it the more I hope we push on with another signing there almost more than another striker. We cant afford starting games with those two playing, it is like starting the game one nil down.
As things currently stand with no CBs incoming Sanchez would be 3rd choice CB, not 4th. So unless you want Dier to be the 3rd choice (yikes!), you hang on to Sanchez.
No I know, I’m not disagreeing with that, it’s a comment on the state of the league, that there exists a real opportunity this year.
However, once Newcastle, United, and Chelsea’s projects begin to develop, with the insane amount of financial backing they have, they will be as out of reach as City are.
Oil money makes the game and league unfair.

The glut of players with an attitude like Spurs are their country club to which they have a life membership is a direct consequence of the decision to hand out long term deals to our existing squad while not bringing in suitable competition to challenge them during the critical moment of Poch's tenure, then sacking Poch, and Jose, and Nuno, and Conte, and Stellini, while never holding that tenured leadership group of players responsible for their years and years of coming up short in critical moments.
The disappearance of the competitive sporting mentality that is absolutely vital in professional football has been shocking and disheartening to see.
Correcting that is Ange's initial mission above all else and early signs look very promising. But that's why I'm shouting from the rafters that the guys responsible for that diseased culture cannot be allowed a way back into the team the way they have ALWAYS been given a way back into the team in the past.

I think that video made a good point which shouldn't be ignored (for us as much as Brighton): we're attractive to players because we're still a bit shit in some areas. I'm paraphrasing, but the point was players look at their opportunities at 'bigger' clubs with first 11 and bench full of internationals and don't fancy toiling in the shadows for a few years. But Brighton has a seaside (shit beach) and you're more likely to slot straight into their first team and be spotted for MEGAbucks.
I mean, it's quite likely that some players are looking at us and going 'I can do better than [so and so]' and they will still have a level they can go up from here (for the time being).
