I admittedly haven’t watched a ton of forest games, but whenever I’ve seen Johnson, he hasn’t really been impressive.

He’s basically just young and fast and a lot of people think that means he’s a great prospect. But Dan James was also young and first… and many others like him.

I would not be too excited about this.

I think it depends why we might pursue him.

Long term squad asset, who can score up to 10 goals a season and give us an out ball - then okay.

But only at a reasonable price. Much is also on the basis of any so called interest.

Only just we have finally overcome dealing with a collection of crap defenders(dier, sanchez, rodont, davies, doherty etc) and shit midfielders (ndombele, winks, hojberg etc). He scored 8 goals last season. We dont need to make a collection of Richarlisons .

He was involved in 11 of their 36 goals last season.... Only bettered in that team by Gibbs White who was involved in 13 of them.

I think a phone call to our old friend Nuno to say we can help him out by taking a player off his hands might be in order ......

Clever way of getting sacked and paid for it .....

But 40M was below his market price. We don’t need to achieve lowest possible price in every deal…. Getting a few great value signings like Bissouma, Maddison, Udogie etc means you can overpay for your prime target and it still nets out as good deals aggregated
I don't mind overpaying for the right players, I've harped on about it enough, but only if we're marginally overpaying.

Eze hasn't done nearly enough to merit a £70M price tag. £50M I could swallow, but £70M? That's not a marginal overpay, it's daylight robbery!

You've said yourself that he 'could be' as good as Maddison. Conversely, he may never get anywhere near him. He's what, a year younger than Maddison and not even close to producing what Maddison does. That says to me that he's less likely to reach that level.

The more I think about it, the less convinced I am the Eze has enough about him to take that step up.

Of course, I could be well wrong, but for £70M he's not close to being worth the gamble IMO.

Richarlison was good before we signed him. Who's to say Johnson won't shine under Ange? 22 years old and playing in a poor Forest side.

Many of us were pretty skeptical about Vicario and VDV. They've both come in and looked pretty good. We've bought some shockers over the years, but let's trust the current plan and the new data driven model the club has adopted.

I agree but more nerdier football watchers than myself dont see how he hits the right data points either.

I wanted him last summer but was disappointed with him last season, plus in the game I watched him live at our home game I thought he reminded me of a shitter version of Walcott.

This is true actually, spending £50m on Johnson would be much better than the rumored fee climbing up into the £35m range for Orban. I have really soured on Orban as I’ve watched two of his recent games in full. What purpose does a 5’9” CF who has never won a header in his life and isn’t at all involved in build-up have in the Premier League?

Johnson’s profile is excellent, really - well sized, right sided wing forward who can play across the 3, excellent pace and burst, exuberant runs in behind, proven goal-assist record in England, only 22 - and importantly, homegrown.

His performance is not. He doesn’t have the required technical capability, the top footballing brain and instincts, the vision and creativity to play in tight spaces, nor is he really a top dribbler who can beat players with skill, he just sort of runs into space.

The problem is, why exactly are Forest only pricing him at £50m if he’s so important to them, and why exactly does he never really seem to impress in small spaces?

You're speaking as if a 22 year old kid is a finished product. We as fans seem to harp on all the things a player can't do where as a good manager (Ange... hopefully) figures out how to get the best of a player.

I'm going to choose to believe that Paratici sees the baseline level of technical ability to grow into his athletic skills if we buy Johnson but I personally don't see it.

I see noodle armed Adama Traore.
