It’s complicated.

You have to back managers and also be detached from the manager to recruit players good enough and build a squad good enough for the next manager as well.

It’s the reason DOFs get paid 6 figures.

But that entirely depends if on if you have a project manager or a win now manager, Ange is definitely a project manager and he will be here for the foreseeable, if he leaves then you get a manager who is similar to hm, that's how it's meant to work anyway.

Hojbjerg to Man U would be too perfect. Dunno why they even want him, don't think he's objectively a better player than Scott McTominay or Van De Beek and isn't HG either. If we can get close to £35m out of them we'll have done really really well IMO.

I’ll be honest, I’m seeing the obvious PR about Johnson somehow materialising as Ange’s top priority all along and I can’t lie, this stat worries ‘me.

Loving Ange ball as much as anyone else but recruitment should be detached from the manager to a certain degree as well.

The fact that Tanguy and GLC were bought for Poch and the managers after weren’t even going to fit with them was a huge part of the problem.

But I’ve promised myself to get on board with Johnson so I’m putting it to the back of my mind.
Poch really didn’t have an eye for signings

Ange literally said the other day in his presser that he still feels that there is value in the market if you look in the right places. Johnson for £50m clearly isn't that, so you can only assume the club have got hung up on having another HG player.
I haven't watched much Johnson but if he will score 15-20 goals for spurs this season in all comps then £50m is great value and superb return.

Back the manager.

If we get Johnson I'll be upset if the announcement video isn't him doing keepy uppys and then Richie sliding in taking him out.

I like Brennan, I really do. Loved him in the Champo, think he did solid last year in what was a tough old season for Forest.

It's the price tag I don't agree with. More often than not, when we spend big, it goes to shit. But hey, we got the Big Fella now, new era and all that.

Now just need a CB and 75% of our deadwood shifted. Oh and Brazil's No 9 to stop playing a la Darren Bent (the poor man's version).
Exactly

Doesn't mean you have to pay it.

Tell Forest it's 25mil + 5-10 in bonuses. They say no, you tell them to eff off and you move on to someone else.

His so slow talks about other shite instead of just getting to the point. Reminds me of Ronnie Corbett when he use to do his monologue on two Ronnies. He’d have the main joke but would side track to make other jokes. Main diff was he was funny! Whereas gold talks BS about shite we do t care about and just repeats himself. Plus his so dreary. “Aliastair Gold here, hhhm, aaahhh, as can see I’m in a hotel room” blah blah blah.
Shaun in spurs talk show or Ben abd Sim even the guy who does 60 second update, Savva are so much better!

I can see where you might be getting tripped up. It's a complicated formula. 6 goals divided by 3 games = 2 goals per game.

But putting maths aside, the encouraging thing is that these 2 goals per game are off an xG of 2 per game. So we haven't been lucky. We're actually creating the chances to score 2 per game in a sustainable fashion.
38*2 = 76

We only ever got close or bettered that record twice in the last decade or so. That's with Dele, Kane, Son, Eriksen all in their prime, and in a very attacking setup.

What you're talking about basically each of our players equalling or beating their best ever goal tally. It may well happen but it would be incredibly foolish to trust that it will and do nothing to try to find some more reliable goal scorers.

First time I saw Johnson was two years ago they were the featured game in the FA Cup against then-powerful Leicester and Forest absolutely took them apart, up 3-0 in half an hour, Johnson looked like Cristiano Ronaldo.

He's a guy there has been a lot of hype around and definitely a number of links with us last summer at a higher price point.

The problem isn't this being a guy no one's heard of. This is a hot prospect that was being closely watched in his first go round the PL last year and he did not live up to the hype.
I remember watching Spence for Forest in the Cup against the gooners and thought he was going to be world class :mourcheeks:

Been reading Johnson deal will accelerate after fulham match tomorrow. Think we will get him tbh.
What happens if we lose? We just have one gane a week until Jan 24. Do we still need to downs £50M on someone who atm we don’t know is better than what we have already. Surely wise thing would be to get players where have no real cover now and then reevaluate. We need a CB and mst e another quality midfielder and a CF.
