Does it though? His potential ceiling might be higher, but I'd say that the impact of his previous injuries are still unknown. Johnson is way more of a known quantity.

Don't really have an issue with us spending 20-30m on him, but do we really want to gamble 40-50m on him?
Given the crap we were just forced to sit through. It might be an idea to get both.

Son is our best attacker and he's hardly blowing my socks off.

Fati would be perfect ukno, we have no depth at left winger, especially not enough left wingers who like to cut in and lack top-end pace…

The Ansu pre meniscus who was an electric dribbler and runner would be amazing. But if that Ansu was the one who still exists today then Barca would have him staring every match.

He’s a talented player but he’s not what we need up front at all, we are crying out for either a) a proper #9 or b) a dribbling 1v1 beast of a right winger and Fati is neither. Johnson is kind of the second but even his profile isn’t perfect.

tbf to fati he is a better finisher then richi and is more of an inside forward then a flat out winger, like rashford

Ansu Fati missed a whopping one league game due to injury last season.
One missed game in all comps due to injury since April 2022. 51 appearances last year.

Fati tore his meniscus a week after his 18th birthday in November 2020. Surgery, long absence, these things happen. His body was asked to do a lot at a very tender age.

In January 2022, not long after returning, he did his hamstring. That's a scary injury for a player that young, one where you worry about long-term durability. Fati and Barca elected against surgical repair and just gave it time to heal.

A year and a half since returning and he's been fine. And those are the only two injuries in his career, it's not like it's been a string of little things, he had a big one, and then another fairly significant one right as he was returning.

The hamstring thing could also be related to re-learning athletic movements in the recovery process from the knee thing, that's not super uncommon.
