The last time we followed the model closest to the one we are currently on, we ended up getting very close to winning things, including a CL final

Whilst I agree with the rest of your post I'm not so sure that so called "model" was what got us there. What we had was the perfect storm of a few absolutely class players coming into their prime (Eriksen, Mouss, Verts, Lloris) and a few good players coached properly to become better than their previous inept and dysfunctional coaches would allow (Walker, Rose) with Kane stepping up as the cherry on the cake. The nucleus of that squad was there before we formulated any coherent and obvious transfer strategy - it was just held back by terrible managers and Poch came along and made us a functioning unit.

I don't credit our near success that to the "model" at the time and if anything exceptions within that model pushed us further e.g. Buying an indisputably class, senior player like Alderweireld.

It was a group of young players bought before their primes and some quality senior pros is all I mean. As opposed to trying to build a squad of senior pros but not paying the wages required to get the top level players.

Right now we have a similar mix of quality seniors: Romero, Son, Vicario, Maddison, Bissouma, VDV (probably a senior now), Porro, Solanke.

And for the likes of Walker, Rose, Dele etc we now have Udogie, Sarr, Gray, Bergvall and Odobert.

Ignore the sarcastic ‘funny’ rating you’ve received (complete misuse of the forum ratings system but the poster in question is well known for it).

Personally I wouldn’t say it’s as high as a 7/10 but agree we’re going in the right direction.

I’d currently give it a 6/10 - becomes a 7 if we sign a LB and an 8 if we also sign a decent GK as comp for Vicario.

I think we’re done until Jan though.
That's fair - a bit too pessimistic for me, but in general I think we agree 😊

I suspect the problem was Richarlison being reluctant to move - certainly not to Saudi - and no PL team wanting to pay fees or wages for player who now looks injury prone (whereas he was not at Watford or Everton).

So we have no real options other than to play him and hope he shows he can keep fit and score goals before other transfer windows.
