So we need forwards who never give the ball away?

Do go on...
I've got to admit, I'm quite enthralled with the level of tactical acumen floating around this forum.

A rank amateur might think that conceding the joint 2nd most goals over the past 20 years of club history would indicate that our final position has a lot to do with needing to continue improving our defence. But the collective tactical braintrust of TFC understands that it is primarily due to the fact that, despite scoring our joint 2nd most league goals in 40 years, all our forwards are shite.

With Ange's highline Spurs are going to concede a lot of goals on quick breaks, it doesn't matter how good the back 4 is in those instances. So if we concede a lot we have to score more. There were many games last season where we had 65 - 70% possession and hardly had a shot at goal. Players seemed scared to push the last pass or make the risky play for fear of losing possession and Ange saying they gave the ball away too much. Need a couple of very attacking players.

Spot on. We left so many goals out on the field. Richarliason tried hard but couldn't seem to be in the right place to score and what can you say about Timo Werner, he has great vision for the game and got himself into great positions to score but his finishing is absolutely abysmal. Could have scored 10 or 12 goals but ended up with 2. I can understand why Ange likes Timo, not many can read the play as good as he does and maybe Ange thinks he can fix his finishing in front of goal.

It’s the fact the forwards lose the ball too easy and we get transitioned.

Do you actually watch the games or do you watch the stats?

Do you buy a striker after their best season or after their worst? Toney was valued at 100 million after his 20 goal season and 40 - 50 million after his 4 goal half season. You are still getting the same player, with the same skill set. Last summer window there was lots of talk about Evan Ferguson being the next big thing, the next Harry Kane and Brighton wanting 120 million for him. He struggled this season, lost some game time and then got injured. Is he worth looking at now? He's still only 19 and the metrics they use to say he is a future star should be the same now as they were then.
Yes he is. We're building something here. I think this would be a smart move. Let him compete with Richarlison this year. We have enough competitions that gives him playing time. Would be in line with the purchases of Bergvall, Philips, Grey (if), Sarr, Udogie etc.

It's because we can't keep the ball in final 3rd during certain phases of play and leave our defence exposed, As the rest of the team wasn't in position to press again after initially losing the ball.

We then get countered leading to a very good chance for the opposition.

The Newcastle game is an example of it at its worst because they scored their chances whereas in other games we got away with it or Vicario made a few worldies as well as some good 1vs1 defending.

Better players who can keep the ball under pressure would generally mean we don't get countered as often, therefore reducing the threat.

That is the doubt I have with his system, ange seems to want to challenge for titles etc, but winning or losing games 5-4 or 4-3 isn't going to win you a title.
Goals win games, defence wins titles is an old saying but, a very true one as the best teams concede less.
Our defence is too frantic and fragile, although I don't expect the club to challenge for a title anyway.

Agree. The system seems a bit naive. It might work but I'm not convinced yet. However I prefer getting 4th playing Ange-ball over Mourinho or Conte-ball

we aren't winning any titles with ENIC so wouldn't worry about it :levylol:

Thanks for explaining that.

You'd think people might have listened to our manager saying his biggest priority in the transfer market was improving up front but people always know best.
