I am in two minds about him: he would cost around £45-50m which is a huge risk for a player at that age (50) but he could be worth Rice-money in 1-2 seasons...

Archie Gray is one of the other players to come out of last season with a high profile. The 18-year-old was named Championship Young Player of the Season. You can see the trend," he said. "The difference with Gray is his age and importance to the fan base. His name is iconic in Leeds circles, as the grandson of Frank and great-nephew of Eddie, and as a product of the academy, he bleeds white.

"While supporters understand money needs to be raised this summer, they would rather sell every player in the squad before parting with Gray. While [Crysencio] Summerville’s aspirations and trajectory are accepted, at 18, there is belief Gray can have more years with his boyhood club to develop before flying the nest.

"There is no hiding the fact Gray can become a generational England talent. Gareth Southgate has already started talking about him after one full season of senior football. Any fee raised for him this summer could feasibly be doubled in two more years, if Leeds can just hold on. Marathe and the board know they will face an almighty backlash if Gray is sold this summer."

I bet u 25 and rodon will do it. How much did dortmund pay for Bellingham

You're comparing a signing in a time where scouting networks weren't so great and players weren't courted as much as now, believe you me we'll never be able to pull off another Modric signing these days because someone else would snap him up, he'd be all over social media for one and Fabrizio would be Tweeting about him before a ball has been kicked.

Comparing Modric to Williams is a massive false equivalence anyway, Modric played in the Croatian league where no-one really had eyes on it and players weren't trusted to play PL football (there was still massive reservations about his size hence why a lot of clubs didn't bite ) and he was earning about £15k a week compare that to Nico Williams who is already on £160k a week playing in La Liga, it's hardly a secret, all the Euro's are going to do is confirm what everyone already knows which is that he's an incredible young player - all that's gonna happen for him is that he can now demand more money at his next club which rules us out regardless.

Besides all that our scouting network is working how it should be, we've already signed Veliz, Phillips, Vuskovic and Bergvall who are brilliant young players and have been touted as future stars - this is the market we need to be targeting, players like Williams will end up at clubs who can pay top wages.
Presumably, the same reason why Villa were scared off of signing Moussa Diaby. The same reason why Newcastle were scared off of signing Alexander Isak... The same reason why West Ham were scared off of signing Kudus and Paqueta.. They were highly thought of players, playing in top leagues (bar Kudus).. Bigger clubs were gonna get them anyway... So all those clubs decided to just focus on the 16-18 year old market.

Uh what point are you making, clubs sign good players?

You realise who we've signed in the last couple of years don't you?

Romero, Porro, Vicario, Udogie, VDV etc....

Don't know what your point is anymore tbh.

Not in 2 minds at all mate,

I’d send them Skipp and/or Rodon plus money to get Gray yesterday.

You see how limited Rice is when it comes to passing the ball? Gray has none of those limitations. Can beat the press with dribbles and half turns, can tackle and win the ball back, can run for days, can pass, can play inverted RB…he’s a tall kid that will be physically imposing and suited to the prem .

He’s bang in line with the future generation we are building with Bergvall Vuskovic Hall Devine Donley Moore and tbh he’s ahead of all of them except Bergvall.

Just went on SC and a random non ITK poster said this:

“Well I know for a fact that Doue was shown around the training ground in the past week 😉. Happy to share background with mods if this is not allowed.”

Yes I know this is clutching but fuck all else is going on

More likely to be true then! I bet it was shot down though in a passive aggressive fashion because it wasn’t from one of the usual bullshitters.

Ok, ok...I am 98 % convinced now ;)

Top wages= top players = top clubs = win things
Other clubs and Tottenham = don't.
So yeah you are bang on Dan well done mate.

There's a balance. Barcelona is struggling now due high wages to players like Messi, Pique, Busquets and Alba. Also if you bring in a player on high wages who fails, you can't get rid again (Ndombele for instance). Get the recruitment right and you don't have to pay 400k wages
