Lewis Cook was spoke about as one to end up as being one of the best English midfielders of his generation. Was also starting games for Leeds at 17/18.
You could honestly replace his name in this article to Archie Gray
Lewis Cook: Meet Leeds' teenage whizz who'll soon be fought over by the big guns
The 18-year-old impressed hugely in his first full season at Elland Road – and Jamie Kemp says a repeat could make him almost impossible to keep hold of...www.fourfourtwo.com
To be fair to Cook, he was on course to living up to some of that hype but got horrendous injuries. Awful ankle injury that kept him out for the best part of two years and then followed it up with two cruciate ligament injuries in the space of two years.. Testament to his ability that he ever got capped for England.
That’s the deal with signing young players though.
Sometimes it comes off and sometimes they get bad injuries or another player in their position develops faster.
If players like Gray, Doue, and Bergvall were the finished article then Spurs aren’t signing them.
I was sure about Wharton as well. Don’t understand why we didn’t get involved. He’s a year or even 2 older though. I had no idea who Wharton was at 18. I would guess that another season or 2 of senior football for Gray and he’s almost certainly beyond us. Like Bellingham once he’d gone to Dortmund.I'm not sold on Gray tbh but I'm rarely sold on these young English hypes. I saw him a few times and didn't think much of him.
I was completely sold on Wharton but prior to that I can't remember the last one I really thought would be a great signing.
