Lets not go crazy now...

Looking at his FBREF, he is low on expected assists, other than that he looks really good.

Yeah I like the look of him YouTubes but obviously I hope the scouts have done their work on him if we are going after him. Weird post by POK though unless he was just trying to get in there ahead of a journalist breaking the story. There could be nothing in it, but the link does make sense.

It's racist to call any race something. Jews are a race, Scots aren't.
I think it’s a fine line between calling something racist and acknowledging that certain cultural stereotypes do exist without it necessarily being a negative observation.

Because of the world we live in some people are very quick to jump on the racist bandwagon.

I’ll try to convey an example - I have several friends whose family are originally from India. We were chatting the other day and he brought up that it was a cultural thing where Indian families would often measure relative success in material items such as a big house, a new car etc. It was a cultural thing to openly display these items as an indicator of your personal success.

Now if I had made that observation would some people have branded that as a racist remark?

I think sometimes we need to take a moment and think about the motive behind the remark, rather than the remark itself.

I hope that makes sense, as I appreciate it’s a very sensitive topic?

The well worn trope is that: "Not all cheapskates are Jews, but all Jews are cheapskates!!

It's the way we've been portrayed throughout history...

It's as innacuarate as it is annoying!

Same as ALL Scottish people are tight, and all Scousers are thieves!
...and all 'Murricans are Gun Toting maniacs (liddle bit of Politics there!)

None of it true!
......certainly explains why the Welsh keep getting sheepish looks.

Good point & well made.

Think my original statement was probably too 'blanket'; of course between different cultures you're gonna find varying attitudes to certain things, and some stereotypes will be borne in truth.

Only difference I'd mention is your Indian example is more a cultural thing. Where it becomes questionable for me is when people start attributing that to race, as if it's something immutable based on their genetic make up.

As for the Jewish stereotype about being tight with money, even if it turns out there is kernel of truth given Jewish history as financiers I think it's just too rooted in antisemitism to be spoken about so blithely. And attributing Levy's spending habits to the fact he's a Jew is very lazy and, yes, antisemitic in my view.

Anyway we're getting really off topic for a transfer thread, & we largely agree anyway so happy to leave it there.
