"If you’re doubting Solanke because he has one season of consistent premier league goal output, you’re ignoring so much context.
Look at who he is, what he’s got, what he hasn’t, and how that would look for your team.
People are far too black and white when it comes to assessing players.
Striker A score 20+ goals for 3 seasons in a row. And striker B could score 20 goals in 3 seasons collectively. But it doesn’t NECESSARILY mean I believe striker A would be better for what I want.
This is where you must trust your instinct for assessing players and your knowledge and experience for if you believe the skillsets are transferable for what you want.
When I assess Solanke I see a striker who’s always been a very good footballer. High technical quality and variety, can link play over various distances and angles, has a large area of presence, can ball carry, back to goal, facing goal, runs in behind, variety of finish, good age, excellent athlete and reliable on the injury front as well as an immense presser. Someone who can play for the team. And I would also look at the context as to why last season was his first premier league breakout season in terms of goals scored. I would speak to him on many occasions, understand the person. See him live. Watch tonnes of games to see the context behind everything. And so much more.
The point I’m making is, if you’re purely judging Solanke because it’s not a sexy name from a European league, or because hes only had one high scoring prem season, you are failing to look at so much of what goes into analysing players and recruitment and ignoring context behind all of it."
Pretty much.
