Not a wild take at all.

There's definitely a non-zero chance they have decided his body can't handle prem football over a full season and they want to move him on.

Solanke and Kulusevski as the main options for #9 would be an upgrade on last year. But only if they finally get that 1v1 specialist for the RW.

I don’t think it’s his body. Something isnt right upstairs it seems poor bloke.

100%.

Not aggressive, not clinical, not great at link-up play.

Would be so underwhelming and for me a signing that would be more likeky than not, to ne a failure.

Nothing is certain but being a star striker at a club our size iis a huge ask. Solanke ain't up to it.
Put it this way. If Woolwich were signing Solanke, the "Let's all laugh at gooners" thread would be seeing some pretty heavy traffic right now.

:harrylol:

Genuinely don’t get the hate (from mainly the usual menaces so actually perhaps I do get it!) for Solanke.

Just because he isn’t some superstar name doesn’t he mean he wouldn’t be a good buy.

Good finisher and would suit our system.

That's okay. I just disagree.

People seem to think Postecoglou is some kind of magician. He ain't, and he ain't turning a striker who couldn't even get into a Euro squad of average strikers into some top notch player.

I think desperation is perverting judgement.
And that's fine yo disagree mate, no manager has a wand, to make things magically happen.
I like the manager I really do, I like what he is trying to do, but he can only work with what he is given.
I am concerned about his tactics because it does look naive at times, but I will give him longer to resolve it, he has to or, we will get repeat results like last season.
I do believe the club could match Woolwich in ambition, sadly though the owners we have just won't risk it to try and achieve sporting glory.

"If you’re doubting Solanke because he has one season of consistent premier league goal output, you’re ignoring so much context.

Look at who he is, what he’s got, what he hasn’t, and how that would look for your team.

People are far too black and white when it comes to assessing players.

Striker A score 20+ goals for 3 seasons in a row. And striker B could score 20 goals in 3 seasons collectively. But it doesn’t NECESSARILY mean I believe striker A would be better for what I want.

This is where you must trust your instinct for assessing players and your knowledge and experience for if you believe the skillsets are transferable for what you want.

When I assess Solanke I see a striker who’s always been a very good footballer. High technical quality and variety, can link play over various distances and angles, has a large area of presence, can ball carry, back to goal, facing goal, runs in behind, variety of finish, good age, excellent athlete and reliable on the injury front as well as an immense presser. Someone who can play for the team. And I would also look at the context as to why last season was his first premier league breakout season in terms of goals scored. I would speak to him on many occasions, understand the person. See him live. Watch tonnes of games to see the context behind everything. And so much more.

The point I’m making is, if you’re purely judging Solanke because it’s not a sexy name from a European league, or because hes only had one high scoring prem season, you are failing to look at so much of what goes into analysing players and recruitment and ignoring context behind all of it."

Pretty much.

If that's the managers choice then get him his man. The price is £65m so back him if that's who he wants. If it was our player that had a £65m release clause you know damn well we wouldn't accept anything less. Back your man Levy.

Massive Richy fan but with his injury record and Ange confirming he wants a striker, it’s fucking obvious the club don’t think Richy can stay fit for a season.

If that’s the case, tbh I’d prefer to sell Richy, bring one of Solanke/Gyokeres then use Kulusevski as the rotation #9 and get another RW.

And as a huge Ange fan he can fuck off with not getting it done in one window either. That needs to happen this summer.
Agree with all that, Lankshear plus Kulu as back up

Richy was good for about ten games last season when fit, but that’s ten out of about ninety games. Will only get worse imo

Let's not start with words like hate.

I am saying he isn't taking us forward and that talk of big numbers fir his signature is worrying.

It's a sellers' market when it cones to strikers and I can see us getting stung.

What too many are failing to consider is the difference between being a striker for Bournemouth and being one for a club that has massive expectation.

Simply not a special player and my God we need one.

Not even complec to me. If we get him then I will be all in but....

He’s been shortlisted by people who know a lot more about his skillset than we do. I’d like to think with our recruitment model now, if we’re bringing someone in, it’s for a very good reason!

I would be happy to get solanke, he got around 19 goals in a lower half of the table side.
With the right service would get 25 goals + in a top six team.

Best thing about Solanke is he can genuinely do a bit of everything. He's got more of an all round game than Watkins and Toney. Last season he showed why he was so highly thought of by Chelsea and then Klopp when he was younger.
