How Dry should our Powder be?

Our manager speaks to the media at the end of our preseason tour, reminiscing about how good it was to have an actual out and out striker at his last job. This club is now suddenly in deep talks for a player who was not selected for the Euros and sat on his arse for the entirety of Summer. This club will now proceed to haggle for the price and payment structure for god knows how long until the season starts.

How anyone can think this football club is functional beyond me.

It’s been explained to you a thousand times in here why he’s a good player and a great fit for what we need.

You’ve never managed to explain what part of his football game isn’t good enough.

I’m not repeating it again. It will happen or it won’t and if it does I think he’s going to be quality for us.

The Euros are a terrible reason to sign a player. It’s been established so many times in history.
Well heres my reasons. Solanke failed to make it at Chelsea, failed to make it at Liverpool. Hes had 1 good season in the prem in his career at mid table fodder Bournemouth.

Bang average

Hopefully we do our usual baulk at the price trick.

Id rather have David for 30m and bring in another striker than pay 60m for solanke.

Nah my concern is, if we pay 65mil for Solanke that is our striker for the foreseeable. Not our striker for next season and maybe we upgrade. That's him for a while, and worried the level he is and the level he will. take us to.

134 prem appearances and 29 goals is on par with Brennan Johnson, who plays out wide and is hated on.

I really don't hate the player, would take him here. Just concerned at the whole package and how this club behaves.
Let's face it, whomever we bring in, someone is going to be unhappy about it, everyone has their own ideas about who is good, who is bad, who's overpriced etc.

If the club has identified a player that will fit the system and win us more points, is it really such an issue if he costs more than we think he should?

Let's say we do get Solanke. You question the price, others question his quality. But then he bangs in 20 for the season? Is his price really that high if the result is that? Say it's 15 with say 8 assists. Is the price too steep for that result?

The point I'm making is that we can never truly value a transfer until we see what that money has bought. It might seem underwhelming now, but then I can remember posters being underwhelmed at the VDV signing. Tapsoba was flavour of the month then.

I can understand the feeling of being underwhelmed by Solanke, it wasn't that long ago when I was feeling that way myself. But I read a poster go through his attributes and it intrigued me, so I watched a few Bournemouth games to see what it is he brings, and after watching him, I was convinced he has the skillset to really thrive in our brand of Football.

So yes, £65M is him being overpriced, but I don't care. We've had plenty of value from other signings. We might not feel that there's value in his price, but we'll be singing a different tune if he delivers.

Strange as they both offer completely different things. That means it's a financial constraint.

Neto is literally the perfect signing profile-wise and improves the weakest area of our attack but he's made of cheese-string.

Eze would just edge it for me for that reason. His versatility would also be a plus as he'd bench Maddison and also offer a better alternative than Werner on the LW.

Eze seems like a good fella to have in the dressing room, will be easy to manage

Versatility big plus as you say

If it's between the two then eze. Neto is just going to be Injured most of the season, we'd just have to fast track Mikey

O Keefe says he thinks it'll be Eze or Neto.
He's saying we'll bring in a CF, a wide player, and a "lesser named" player.

Solanke
Neto
Richardson

Wouldn't be a bad end to the window given Richardson seems good on the clips seen, is left footed, DM depth and could help on our left side also?

I would love Eze more than all 3 but our squad needs a striker and right sided attacker as a priority..... he offers neither but he just suits what we like so much
