You could always rely on Bale to deliver in the biggest games, Messi and Ronaldo were lightyears ahead of everyone in their primes, there's no shame in not being better than possibly the 1st and 2nd best ever football players. Bale certainly shared qualities with Ronaldo; incredibly impressive athleticism, the ability to impact results on an individual basis, particularly in important matches, he was actually a better free kick taker than Ronaldo too who has a hilariously bad conversion rate on them despite having insisted taking them for large parts of his Portugal and Madrid careers respectively. I fall down the middle on judging his Real Madrid career; it's hard to argue the wheels didn't completely fall off in the last few seasons, and he certainly did himself absolutely no favours with the fans over there in that regard, it was clear his head was gone long before he actually went, but it's hard to argue against the sweeping successes that team had with him as a regular feature of it. Particularly when he scored the goals that made the difference in 2 of the champions league finals he played more than a bit part role in. It's fair to say his time was mixed there but if you asked him whether he would go back and turn down Madrid he'd tell you you must be fucking joking, and would Madrid fans really go back and choose to reverse the signing in hindsight considering his goals got their name on the CL trophy twice? Some might say that's wortth the £87m by itself.

Skipp 'n cash according to Ornstein lol

Couldn't give a toss what anyone thinks about his apparent dodgy hamstrings (nor does our data team & manager). If the reports are true, he was shortlisted, the manager wanted him, we offered Skipp in the process and we were rightfully rejected. Chelsea did the business required to get him, we didn't.

I would take our squad and manager over theirs every day of the week. They have been rebuilding for about 3 years longer.
