I know it’s considered poor form to hope for a big name signing and, instead, we need to demonstrate a sort of restrained wisdom about procuring the right player for the right position but, fuck it.

I’d love to see us go get a big name, even if only on loan. Chiesa, Raphina etc. Someone exciting.

Getting excited about your team signing an established player is part of the fun.
Is the other part slagging him off if he doesn't hit the ground running, and the club for paying what they did?

While I've never been super excited at the idea of Solanke, I much prefer him in the team with Richy. I doubt we will see them on the pitch at the same time too often but really like the idea of having the immediate cover, the ability to rotate, and someone who can play in the same system/role as a sub late on in games.

Chiesa is a really good player. He’s a strong little bugger. I think his marauding style of wing play would adjust well to the PL.

I think the problem will be that he’s apparently looking for 200plus a week, so would want to be on more than Son. I can’t see us going for that.
Up front signing on fee, reducing the actual wage so it's either on par or lower than Son.

Weve obviously grown tired of scraping the home grown quota together and decided to buy english players and willing to pay the premium.

If we get a decent left back and a first choice winger it will be an almost full squad of decent players if not spectacular and something to build on next year

If that’s true then why wait until now to sign him? It could have been done in July. I’m calling bullshit on that.

The only leverage we had in this deal is the threat that we'd activate his release clause on the last day, when it would be impossible to replace him. Starting to deal with them early in the window would've led to them just pointing at the release clause and telling us to pay up, but since we're closer to the end of the window we have more leverage, so they have to be more flexible.
