I like Davies -not a flashy player but to me he is a solid 6-7/10 when called upon and happy to be a squad player - could we improve on him? yes however i wouldn't put it as a priority , more worried about Udogie & Son backups

We conceded a lot of goals when VDV/Romero out last year. Don't think we're much stronger this year tbh.
Without VDV's pace to bale us out I fear we will get destroyed in transition again. I can only think Ange sees our defending as more of a whole team issue, which will improve with likes of Solanke and additions in midfield.
As I wrote yesterday - I too feel we are falling short of what was needed before the summer.
But what the actual fuck about 5/6 starting signings ?!? That is totally absurd and something that almost never happens at any club.
And if you were not talking about starters, then you surely cannot totally write off players like Gray and Bergvall - I don't think they are starters as of now, but they will both get minutes in EPL.
Solanke+Gray+Bergvall+ Emerson+ Eze would be very successful window, but I assume we get one that kind of player in before the window closes so 1 short of what was needed. Hope to be proven wrong.
Dragusin improves our depth - i'm sure he would be starting for most clubs , i'm just worried we have just got him as we know we can't match Romero's ambition
i think gray and drag would be fine as a CB pairing. grays looked unreal there n pre season. hes got the size and he can play.

We are currently very reliant on VDV staying fit. Conceded too many goals with Davies at LCB last year.
He's still a decent player as well. Filled in admirably last season.
realistically its his last year. madrid will have him next year.
the only glimmer of hope of him staying is if it all falls apart at madrid which it maybe could, and we have a stormer....odds of both of that happening are extremely slim.
romero should be made captain now!! that may also help. do what you can to keep players like that. he should be captain anyway.

?You do realize we signed Dragusin and Werner in Jan. Both are here this time for the full season.
We signed new starting CF in Solanke. It seems Spence will be kept around too.
We signed two players of strong potential in Gray and Bergvall. Plus remains to be seen who from the academy/own youth will be integrated to first team (potentially Moore, Devine, Donley, Lankashear).
On flipside we've lost PEH and Royal from those who got any substantial minutes.
So once more -
ADDED - Solanke, Gray, Bergvall for whole season and half season worth of Dragusin and Werner + potental youth players and reintegration of Spence.
LOST - PEH and Royal
From first-choice players we added 1 lost 0. Squad players lost 2, added 5.

He is undoubtedly very good defender, but he has never been fully reliable. Plus not even most important CB in our team...
Age doeent really matter in his case he's clearly good enough to get mins this season with Maddison and tbh I don't even think we play with a strict 10, Maddison and Bergvall play similar roles (6/8/10).
I feel the need for Eze is a bit forced, it bring us more questions then answers.

"Well covered" by two players with basically no demonstrable experience as 10's.
One of which is 18 (and defines himself as an 8) in his first year in a new country!
If you have paid attention we don't really play with a 10, Maddison picks the ball up all over the park.
Eze isn't a natural 10 anyway, he's more of a wide 10 and benefits from an overlap which gives him space...we don't really play like that...
