That's the 2nd season and btw they finished 8th with an FA Cup with all of those signings still a part of their squad, we finished 8th with fuck all trophies just a season before, you know the season they won a cup and finished 3rd
I’m not sure why you’re talking up United as a comparison.

They’ve massively underachieved since Ferguson retired and are, arguably, the worst run team in the Prem (with the exception of Everton) in that period.

They have an additional 100 million to spend over us each year meaning they can afford to make an Anthony-sized mistake every year (which they generally do) and still be on par with us.

They’re going to succeed occasionally because they boast five times the revenue of Bournemouth.

What’s that you say?

a panic move for a mercenary who was never on the list but at least the financials are good!

Nope I’m not having that, we’ve been waiting on Kingsley Coman all summer.
I genuinely believe the list was:

1) Nico Williams - What was a difficult deal BEFORE the Euros, then became an unrealistic one… He was either only going to Barca or staying home.

2) Desire Doue - Once Bayern & PSG became involved, game over.

3) Johan Bakayoko - His recent comments in the media about wanting a team “That can win the Champions League” and Ange’s recent comments about only wanting “players who want to be at Tottenham” tells it own story.

4) Pedro Neto - Massive risk because he has appeared in less than 50% of Wolves games in the past 3 seasons. Chelsea were clearly willing to go where we weren’t and I’m ok with that.

There’s still talented players of the required profile out there, even though we’ve seen the likes of Summerville, Philogene, Gruda & Nusa all moving this summer.

I doubt we go for Coman especially at those wages, Adringa looks more likely all things considered.

Based on Ange commentary during the Euros, Neto was pretty high up. I don’t think we ever got any sniff of interest from Williams.

If I was guessing we liked Doue but only at a certain price range but Neto we really thought we could get until Chelsea offered a much longer contract than we ever would.

I do believe the early interest in Kubo as well because Ange has history but RC told them a price that scared them off.

Now it looks like we are on RW option #4 but we definitely want a RW.

Why do think he wasn’t the first choice?

Confident in that belief enough to say the manager is lying?
You misunderstood me, I'm not suggesting he's lying and I'm not having a dig at you. I'm struggling with when to take him at his word and when not to.

Apparently when he says we're going for the title this season it's pure mind games, for who's benefit remains unclear, but when he confirms a player we've signed was his first target it's gospel.
