How Dry should our Powder be?

João Gomes noises continue on SpursCommunity. Quite probably bollocks, but someone in midfield to really add some grit and help shield the back four would be rather nice. I doubt we'd have lost our mojo like we did last night from the moment Leicester equalised.
Someone who actually understands the level of competitiveness and aggression necessary to actually win matches would be nice.

He’s just technically meh and I think his passing is very basic. He’d be given a lot of space as a creative presence by other teams, and it wouldn’t help us vs a low block really, but whatever I suppose you can’t have all that and a demonic presser. Would still be very useful signing especially if Bentancur is crocked.

But we bought in the fricking United States of America which added a lot of squad depth.

No way Levy would shell out for that now.

Maybe we could do some sort of false-flag operation to trigger him? Do a press release saying Spammers are building a creche and a greyhound kennel.
We'll be fine

60,000 fans singing "We're going to hang out the washing on the siegfried line" will strike fear into our opponents

If this is correct, you look at our team and are left thinking, "wtf??"

It shows you that team that consisted of Lloris, Sanchez, Emerson, Dier, Sessegnon, Skipp, Hojbjerg, Perisic, Moura, Reguilon Winks, Gil, Lo Celso, Ndombele and Rodon needed replacing big time

In that same time,

Woolwich have competed for the title twice (because their squad is much better than ours)

Man Utd have finished below us

City have won the league twice (because their squad is much better than ours)

And Liverpool had Jurgen Klopp squeezing what he could out of the best Liverpool squad in 30+ years.

Did you expect a rebuild by spending nothing?

I think the question is: how well have we actually rebuilt?

Not really sure that's what's being implied though.

You can't compare what we've spent in two seasons to some of those teams when some of those teams' squad are already of a high standard due to years of building up..

A better comparison would probably have been the fees spent by the particular teams' managers over their first two seasons. Not 4+ seasons deep after building the squad they need.

It either shows:

1. How much work our squad actually needed after years of neglect.

2. Or how we have spent lots on average PL players. Eg. Johnson, Solanke and that the prices for players is just stupid.

mostly 1

it was a aging and poor squad that needed massive investment to reduce the playing age, lloris, dier, perisic, kane, lucas, tanganga, lenglet, sanchez, danjuma etc etc

to levy's credit we have indeed spent a lot to replace all that with younger players. high transfer fees however are not a good measure of quality as a small club like forest/wolves etc can demand what they want for their places.
A look at the wages table gives a better picture imo

We've spent well, for the most part. But Werner and Johnson are spectacularly wasteful. They simply have to have strong competition, which they don't. Son is starting to show his age, too, which is inevitable, but still sad. I hope so much we win something with him in the team.

Our overall play is great, good solid buildup and composure, but then bouncing off defenders before it gets into the box. I like the fact we at least aren't just a one-trick pony and seem to try different routes, but central is hard without the overlaps* and wingers who can't beat a man or cross well are pointless.

*Especially when the overlapping player immediately passes it back to the wingback. I just cannot understand why we'd let oppo defence get back into position. It's surely the opposite of what they're trained to do?

*Breathe*

I'm trying not to let it get to me, but I am clinging on to Will-Son-of-Godobert as our lord and saviour.

No pressure son, but fucking beat a man once and I will pay for your next blowie.

Joking aside, it feels like when we click, we really click. I'm sure it will come.

I think we have bought well generally, BJ there has to be question marks over. Solanke - it was his first game, give the man slack.

The rest are all considered a success (I don’t include Werner as he is a loan).

Big questions over Ange though - he still does not look like he can get the balance between defence and attack right.

Romero and VDV are amongst the best defenders in world football but we concede to just about the only chance Leicester created up to that point, letting a fucking pensioner score

Romero and VDV aren't amongst he best defenders in the world. It's clear.

Romero is very good much of the time. VDV with much to learn and Dragusin will soon deserve a start in my opinion.

Postecoglou must not reward paucity.

I wasn't comparing anything.

That just highlighted the amount we've spent relative to others high spenders.

My focus is on what we've spent it on.

And if it does that amount justice.
