It's a good move if:
We want him in a year's time.
We can move Bissouma / Bentancur to make room for him.
He'd be worth the money.
Right now we can't say whether it's good or not. Really though who cares, Betis couldn't afford paying much more than they did, and the alternative was what, keeping Lo Celso? We got what we could out of them and shifted him, that's good enough.

Best we could have got out of that situation.

Good tactics - ensure you get an upside every way possible when dealing with a club saying they can't pay and a player determined to go back to Betis only
The fact he wants to go back to Betis says it all. This is a regular player in the best international team over the last 3 years. Only 2 defeats I believe. World Cup(which he missed! Shame) and 2 x Copa america.
Just wants to be in his comfort zone. Won’t be missed. Just Reggie now.

Because we've said fine we'll accept your ridiculously low price but we want to sweeten the deal by having an option on Johnny at €30m (which we will pay you for).

So Betis get to sign Gio for pennies, plus receive an option fee and keep Johnny another season and are only potentially obliged to sell him at a price they are happy with next summer.

We get rid of deadwood and have a free run at a player we like.

So many on X saying that Levy is taking the cheap option.

Perhaps we should just throw money at an unknown quantity, give him a five year contract and try to off load him in year two of it if the move goes tits up?

It's great reading fans spending the clubs money for no certain reason but mainly because we haven't signed a Carlos Kick-A-Ball player who they have never seen play because he plays for an Italian backwater club.
