Competition Teams that are meant to be in the Premier League

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

sure, but they went down to league one soon after right?

I've never met one of their fans, and until a few years ago they never came up except in a meme sort of way.

I think Huddersfield have as many league titles as us but no one calls them big.
Huddersfield won league titles pre WW2 when football was much less “conventional” so to say, the concept of supporting a club was shaky back then.
Forest won the league and two ECs by the late seventies when football was much more comprehensive as a culture and competition.

There’s actually quite a lot of Forest supporters and I enjoyed the banter with them in the LC in 2014

Oldham Athletic were one of the founding Premier League teams and they were relegated from the football league this season. I don't like the way the Oldham fans turned every home game into a protest against their chairman instead of getting behind their team but there will always be a part of me that associates Oldham with the early days of the Premier League.

Anyone remember the 93/94 Relegation Playoff? I think Liverpool were complaining the other night about the pitch before their CL defeat in Paris. They need to spend some time on a real pitch:

Football has progressed so much in many ways, the standard of play, the pitch ect, our team back in the early to mid 90's was fucking shocking bar 1 or 2 great players

The likes of Derby, Preston, Burnley and Blackburn are all proper FOUNDER member clubs (of the FOOTBALL league, not just yer Premier League... to have the likes of Wimbledon or Oldham in there just feels wrong!)

I am not ashamed to say I'm a 'Historical Football Club snob'... But not just the
'big clubs' ...Ipswich, Forest and Derby weren't particularly big, they were small, provincial clubs who did BIG things!

Added to that the two Sheffield clubs... At least one of which, for me should always be in and around the top division....
then again, Notts County are one of the oldest clubs in existence, but don't quite fit the Top 20 clubs in the Country right now...

Chelsea & West Ham are difficult ones.... Apart from the obvious hatred for them, I grew up in a time where both were in the (old) 2nd Division.... Chelsea's 'glory days' were well behind them, and they also aren't a particularly old club (1905?) that makes them relative teen-agers compared to some grand old clubs!

This makes interesting reading:
some clubs are older than I thought!!

I'm going for 22 clubs ('cos that's what I think we should still have) and done some either/or's cos I just can't narrow it down!

1. Tottenham
2. Arseanal
3. Man Utd.
4. Man. City
5. Liverpool
6. Everton
7. Leeds Utd
8. Derby County
9. Nottingham Forest
10. Aston Villa
11. Wolverhampton Wanderers
12. Bolton Wanderers
13. Stoke City/Middlesbrough
14. West Bromwich Albion/Birmingham C.
15. Leiectser/Coventry City
16. West Ham/Chelsea
17. Newcastle/Sunderland
18. Blackburn Rovers/Blackpool
19. Burnley/Preston NE
20. Sheff. Weds./Sheff. Utd.
21. Ipswich/Norwich
22. Portsmouth/Southampton/Brighton

There.... That's my two p'enneth! I know I've listed over 30 clubs, but like the idea of some yo-yo'ing going on... just to keep everyone on their toes.... Avoids complacency!

...this feels like a proper close season thread!!?!

Something else just occurred to me when going through next season's actual PL teams (along with working out my preferred teams) I noticed summit quirky about the make up of the clubs....

Man City v Man Utd
Liverpool v Everton
Tottenham v Arseanal
Aston Villa v Wolves
Nottingham Forest v Leiectser City
Chelsea v West Ham
Fulham v Brentford
Crystal Palace v Brighton
Southampton v Bournemouth
Leeds Utd. v Newcastle Utd.

That's a LOT of local derbies & rivalries...

In fact, if you don't include Leeds/Newcastle (do they have any historic rivalry, other than being Northern one Club cities?) EVERY other club has a local rival to play...
even the likes of Chelsea/West Ham, and Palace/Brighton have historical rivalry... despite other clubs being slightly closer.

that's quite a quirk.... Sky are gonna have a field day with all those local rivalries...

And that's not even taking into account the animosity between Man Utd & Liverpool / Leeds, and us with Chelsea / West Ham (and Leiectser/Southampton according to them!)

Unless Sky have had this planned it all along...

If so, expect either Leeds to go down (and Sunderland to get promoted) or Newcastle to get relegated (unlikely now, I know) and Sheffield Utd to go up to rival Leeds!

S'weird, innit?
